Boobie $oprano, West Coast connoisseur and Mack 10’s Hoobangin Records’ youngest addition, releases the highly anticipated mixtape “Smokin’ Mirrors” dedicated to the streets. With the release of his three breakout singles “2012 Shiznit” featuring Glasses Malone,“L.I.E.” and most recently “Drugz,” Boobie $oprano has created quite a buzz in the industry. The eagerly anticipated mixtape is guaranteed to be a classic street banger.

The self-proclaimed “Gardena’s Finest” proves he can hold his own after putting in years of ghostwriting and production experience behind the scenes. The explosive project featuring his clever word combinations over neck-banging beats, solidifies Boobie as an official rising rap star and one to watch. “Boobie has a flow and substance. Him coming from Gardena, I know it wasn’t easy. I’ve seen him put in the work over the years and it’s good to see that he’s starting to get his break. Coming this Thursday, I will be in Boston and will definitely be grabbing that mixtape while on the road. I can't wait to hear it because I know he is so Gaarrrrr!” says NBA star and family friend Brandon Jennings. As the youngest member of the Hoobangin Records family, Boobie brings a fresh take on a new generation of rap artists.

He knew what he wanted to do regardless of his parents wanting him to take a different route in life. He followed his dream and devoted many years to bettering his craft. He pushed himself through the good and bad times and never gave up on what he wanted,” reveals Track & Field Olympic Gold medalist, Carmelita Jeter.

Boobie $oprano’s former credits include a feature on gangsta rap supergroup Westside Connection’s second and final album “Terrorist Threats” – an album that soared to No. 3 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop charts and remained at various positions in the Top 100 for 23 weeks. In addition to his work with Westside Connection, Boobie teamed up with Mack 10 on several projects, including “Mack 10 Presents Da Hood,” “Ghetto, Gutter & Gangsta” and “Hustla’s Handbook.” Boobie $oprano (credited as Young Soprano on the “The Hustla’s Handbook”) was featured on the hit record “The Testimony” that also made Mack 10′s Greatest Hits album.

KP & Ville: Almost Famous...

$

Calling the "Windy City" home, rappers KP & Ville are definitely on the cusp of greatness. Not quite yet a household name, it's obviously only a matter of time before the music world finally starts recognizing the true talent of this super-gifted Midwest hip-hop duo...

For everyone who are not familiar with KP & Ville, please introduce yourselves to them...
Hello world, this yo boy KP, and this the kid, Ville, two of the top rappers in Chicago, a.k.a. KP & Ville from I'm on entertainment, representing the Englewood South Side of Chiraq, Drillanois, a.k.a. Chicago, Illinois.

Can you tell me how you all actually got into pursuing music? And, what exactly inspired you all to do what you're doing today?
Ville: I got inspired by my big bro and one of his guys. they used to always be rapping and coming up with great songs, so I picked up a pen and pad trying to out-do him and that's where it all started as a youngin'.

KP: Ville started rapping before me. I was a collegiate football player, and I had no intentions of being a rapper until my younger cousin, Lil Terry, was brutally murdered in December of 2003. My cuz wanted to be a rapper, so I picked up his craft and started battle rapping to keep his memory alive, and to help me deal with his death 'cause I know this was his dream and that's how I started rapping and what inspired me -- true story.

Coming up, what exactly was the hip-hop scene like in "Chi-Town?"
The rap scene was more lyrical and creative. Nowadays it's just garbage being spit over these beats and people allow it. Back then, a n**** couldn't just wake up and say, "I want to be rapper!" You had to really know how to put words together, and have a good wordplay with street cred. It really wasn't no mixtapes off other n****s beats, it was more originality and real music; like, NWA, 2pac, Biggie, 8 Ball & MJG, UGK, D-Block, Dipset, Jay-Z, Nas, the Roc movement, Twista, Common, Psycho Drama, R. Kelly, Do or Die, Bump J and Crucial Conflict, to name a few in Chicago.

What is it that separates you all from both your peers and friends in this business of music?
Versatility. Don't nobody get down on these beats like us, with good lyrical content, originality, swag and substance. We can come with different styles depending on the song, and switch it up if we have to fit in with any genre of music. Whereas other rappers are afraid to come out their element and try to make better music that will last forever.

Tell "us" what you are currently working and/or gearing up for?
Ville: I'm currently working on my solo mixtape, Game 7, due early 2013, and a boat-load of videos from Finally Famous and Game 7.

KP: I am currently working on my street mixtape, Dead or Alive, due out 2nd quarter of 2013. I might put out a more lyrical mixtape to let n****s know I still got bars, also called 72 -10, inspired by the Bulls 96-97 record. 2013 college tour and last but not least, be on the look out for KP & Ville new mixtape the summer 2013.

To date, and from a production standpoint, who all have you worked with thus far? And, who is on your future wish list of beat-makers to collab with?
We have worked with Young Chop, Parris Buellar, aka Band Kamp, Greatlakes, Chase Davis, Jay Beats from Paris, Ayo Cooley from Texas, Track Bullys, Illknot, Doc J from Atlanta/Ohio. In the future, we would like to work wit Swizz Beatz, Rico Love, Mike Will Made It, Kay Gee, Timbaland, Pharrell, Zaytoven, Rodney Jerkins, Mannie Fresh and, most of all, Dr. Dre! (that) would be a dream come true.

From your previous projects, have you been content with the feedback you all have gotten thus far? Or, are you feeling more like you all haven't been getting your just due?
Happy, but not satisfied. we want more exposure. we been working like slaves, so hopefully in 2013, we get what we deserve, which is more viral exposure, views, articles, interviews; XXL, Source, MTV and so on.

In order to make KP&Ville a household name, so to speak, especially in this digital age "we" are living in, what do you all feel you need to continue to do?
Good music, hit records with good production, good viral promo, videos, marketing; livemixtapes, Datpiff, street promo, shows and DJs fucking with yo music in the clubs. last but not least, money to fund all these things.

What are your present thoughts on the current state of hip-hop music?
Ville: Right now, the drill scene is rocking in Chicago, so we gone ride that wave.

KP: I don't really like none of this shit, because nowadays everyone sounds a-like. No creativity, basic ass lyrics, no substance at all to their music or videos anymore, that (is) why it's so easy. There's nothing that makes you go home and think about what a n**** said. Sooner or later, we gone change all that 'cause that real shit is gonna make a comeback.

In addition to the forthcoming new music, do you all have any other outside aspirations?
Trying to get the acting thing started with a few movies in 2013; like life in Chi Raq, directed by Soundman, Livin' I.O.E. production, and call the cops: the movie. I.O.E. production, I.O.E. clothing line, Fang Gang Clothes, liquor endorsement, VH-1 reality show and more charitable events for the inner city kids to give back to the community.

What direction do you all see yourselves headed in 20-13 and beyond?
KP: In 2013, we see ourselves going to the moon...fuck the moon, an undiscovered planet! says KP,

Ville: To the top! We separate ourselves by being ourselves, and rapping the way we been doing before Chicago even got on the map. By making our kind of music, which consists of party records, swagged up records, stunting, drill music and gangsta music...basically whatever you want you can find on an I.O.E. KP & Ville album or mixtape. In 2013, we plan on giving the world a taste of Chicago that consists (of) one different genre of music which you may got accustomed to in 2012, and, outdoing the opps by putting out more music, better music, more videos, better videos, staying consistent, using viral and street promo to the maximum, even if we have to put posters on every corner and internet pluggers on every page. Basically, we want to stay one step ahead of the competition! Like they said, we did over a 100 shows last year, we plan on doubling that. Don't grind, you don't eat! it's I.O.E.!

How would your "fans" go about reaching out to you all directly?
You can contact us wit Twitter, FaceBook, Instagram, YouTube, and email: @campaignfamous @im_on_ent and @the_realkp...you can find the other info out on the bottom of the page...

Thank you all for your time, and, lastly, any parting words for the readers of The H.Y.P.E. Magazine?
Buckle up your seat belt for this long crazy ride, cause this will be (a) long ride 'cause we here to stay! No one hit wonder shit! We got timeless music. Expect nothing but greatness whenever you hear KP and Ville on a track -- "no lacking!" 2013 will be our year, you heard it hear first! We want to thank you for for giving us the opportunity to connect with our fans and also make new fans through your site/mag, salute! this is KP & Ville signing out shout-out to all our chicago rappers that paved the way for us this last year, such as; Chief Keef, Lil Durk, Lil Reese, GBE, OTF, King Louie Mubu, L.E.P, Lil Mouse, Young Chop, Chase Davis, Band Kamp, Parris Buellar and many more...we will continue to dominate this rap scene forever!  its I.O.E.!

Who Is Dice Starr?

It is a well-known fact that a good role model can make an indelible impression, good or bad, in a person’s life.  Just when modern day society appears to have wiped out the richness of an originally strong foundation, a mere glimpse into the possibilities of what life can be for people in similar circumstances as you, who choose to follow their dreams, can resurrect a once lost hope.  In this case, the fascinating Hip-Hop artist Desmond Douglas, better known as DICE STARR, looked past the negative aspects of growing up in Brooklyn and focused instead into forging his path in semblance to his role models—his brother Kobra, and
fellow Brooklyn residents Jay-Z and Nas.  At a time when the quality of Hip-Hop seems to be in great decline, Dice Starr has arrived to rescue the poetic significance of rap that has been seemingly tossed aside.  An artist that with deep respect for his culture and roots has almost miraculously appeared to make
his mark in the game.

Dice Starr was born on November 21, 1988, in the gang-ridden neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn.  Although music surrounded him not only in the raps he heard outside bodegas in corners all around town, but also within his family who threw dance hall parties for a living and through his brother King Kobra who was
an underground rap sensation in the town.  But sports held then more of an allure for Dice Starr, who joined the school football team and became so good at it, that it earned him a full scholarship to Hudson Valley College.   Later, he transferred to the University of Houston, a city he had lived in briefly from 12 to
15, and earned his degree in Physical Education.

Upon concluding his studies, his attention shifted back to music and in 2010, he, along with his two brothers and cousins decided to start a group they named BLACKSTARR FAM.  The group quickly became an underground success opening for famous artists Fabolous, Waka Flocka, Young Jeezy and Rick Ross.  Their debut mix tape “It’s Only Right” took them on tour all over New York and Texas.

With the itch to express himself and evolve, Dice Starr began focusing on his solo project.   He gathered a bevy of A-List producers including Lex Luger (Kanye West, Jay Z), Legend (T.I.), Epic (Young Money, Jim Jones) and Derryk Rhodes whom he worked with on the BlackStarr Fam project, and began to lay on track 16 new songs and 2 skits.

With his rich lyrics and sound loaded with long forgotten expressions of another time, Dice Starr is giving to a culturally needy audience a most precious gift.  This production, recorded as an album and released as a mix tape, is named “K.O.T.”  The initials stand for “King of Trapping”, a name that further hints to the street life Dice Starr grew up in and that for him signify freedom.  “We live in a systematic world where there are traps that are strategically placed for mankind to be held in bondage,” explains Dice Starr, “Once broken free from those mental shackles, one becomes King of Trapping, obtaining the power to lead and provide for our family and survive in the streets.”

“K.O.T”, marks a historic moment based on its impressive musical quality, prolific lyrics and the real soul behind its interpreter.  All of the songs are written entirely by Dice Starr and he serves as the executive producer of the whole project.  Engineered by Night Krawler AKA Night Mix (Biggie Smalls, Tupac Shakur, Whitney Houston, Wu-Tang), “K.O.T.” features collaborations by King Kobra, Starr Trina, Rich Flyt, J Roc, Don Corleone, Peter Kolo, Sarah Grace, Skyy, and Militant Kid.

The album as a whole covers the ups and downs of life and its experiences.  His lyrical themes are focused to street life, and the universal subject of life, action and consequence.  The first single, “Over Time” produced by Legend, is a gritty, hard-hitting jam that’s contagious and relays the important message of hard
work paying off.

Today after many years of development, Dice Starr is finally ready to show the world his truth and follow in the footsteps of his idols.  So prepare yourself for the launching of a mix tape that undoubtedly will make its historic mark.

Adolph Thornton Jr. also known as Young Dolph is one of the hottest new artist emerging out of the southern hip-hop scene.  Born in Chicago, IL Dolph relocated to Memphis, TN where he spent his youth on the south side of town in the Castalia community.  Dolph started his independent label Paper Route Empire with friend and business partner Daddio in 2008 releasing his first mix-tape "Paper Route Campaign" .

In his music Dolph raps of a harsh upbringing that resulted in him partaking in criminal activities to handle the responsibilities of providing for his family.  While he is sure to express the negative consequences of the street life Dolph also illuminates the track with his high regard for a lavish lifestyle filled with fun in fast cars, high end designer gear, and a passionate affection for the finest marijuana in the world.  In April of 2012 Dolph released his 5th mix-tape titled "A Time 2 Kill" which featured appearances from artist such as Juicy J, Gucci Mane, & Don Trip.  The streets embraced the release greatly creating an even stronger buzz that resulted in a surge of shows through out the South and Midwest.

Now with the industry's eye on him and the streets talking everybody's waiting for his highly anticipated upcoming release "Blue Magic"  to drop.  As the title suggest Dolph insures that his latest piece of work will be the best product in the streets.

Too hear more music from Young Dolph search for him on livemixtapes.com.  You can also follow him on twitter @YoungDolph.

Tell me about Young Dolph?

Im just a young man from the gutta in South Memphis that started rapping to make a better way to provide for my family.

When did you decide music was your passion?

Probably around the time my grandma passed.  She always wanted me to do something positive with my life.  I owed it to her to go all out to try to do something that could possibly keep me from getting in some kind of trouble.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Money because when you hear me or see me you automatically think of money whether you thinking of getting it with me or it's motivating you to do your on thing.

What artist did you grow up listening to and what did you like about them?

I grew up listening to a lot of C-Murder and Master P.  I liked the way that Master P built his empire… made something out of nothing.

Are you currently signed to a label?

No, I'm an independent artist. I put out music under my own Label Paper Route Empire.

What do you think of hip-hop music today?

Hip-hop is in a good place right now it's a lot of opportunity right now if you unique.

Is there anything else you would like readers to know?

I'm about to really let the world know what's up with this Paper Route Shit.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know...What's your CRAZIEST "Where they do that at?!" moment...

My Craziest wtf moment gotta be when this random Iranian kid walked up on us asking for a photo but that wasn't the crazy part.  It was the fact that he was followed by his dad then his mom coming to take a picture with me letting me know how far my brand was really beginning to reach.

Who Is Skatterman?

$
0
0
In the rap game, flash-in-the-pan artists are called legends before they can legally drive. By those standards, Skatterman is an OG in the game. But his is a hard-earned title that comes after years of sweat and heartache. Negotiating the notoriously grimy music business is nearly as dangerous as growing up in the streets of eastside Kansas City, but Skatterman somehow avoided the pitfalls of both, making a name for himself in the process.

Starting as a teen, the syllable spitter knocked out hits with different groups, starting with Southside Rollers in 1999. In high school, Skatterman met rapper Snug Brim, and the two became longtime collaborators. When their 2001 album “Worth a Million” caught the attention of Tech N9ne and his label Strange Music, the duo signed on with Strange for a successful, seven-year run.

After 8 years as Strange Music's self proclaimed black sheep, 2012 marks the first official studio album for Indie Icon Tech N9ne’s former number one henchman. Skatterman has elevated his game even further since his separation from right hand man Snug Brim to develop a new sound and forge a new direction from a now solitary and more personal point of view.

With his new imprint "BIGGSHOT Music & Films/Bungalo/Universal", Skatterman is prepping the field for a Midwest movement the likes of which has never been seen. With the inaugural Mixtape “This is Kansas City; Vol. 1(2010)” and the subsequent release in November 2011 of "The Cook Book:Recipe 1" and “The Cook Book:Recipe Two(2012)”, the industry veteran, breaks new barriers and provides fans with a little more insight into life away from his previous label base. Now after over 700 shows with Tech N9ne, Mims, Lil Flip and Paul Wall among others, Skatterman is ready to leave his own indelible mark on the music game.

Spring ushers in new things a season when everything turns green. Spring 2012 in particular, haters and detractors will be green with envy as the notorious KC Underboss Skatterman, drops his epic first solo album "Street Life"! The new album will feature an assortment of platinum class production and guest appearances from such notables as: Paul Wall, Too $hort, Jim Jones, Bun B, Slim Thug, Ludacris, Tech N9ne and Lil Flip (aka Mr Flip Gates).

Skatterman calls the project "TRUE." "It's about my reality," Skatterman says. "It's for the people who are still in the streets, or have people they love still in the streets." Expect the rapper to pull no punches. Given the freedom to speak entirely for himself, Skatterman plans to immortalize on wax his life experiences from the urban core, and his frustrations with the justice system, false friends and broken homes. The lead single called "Get It In" expresses Skatterman's attempt to distance himself from the drug game but the reminder of his allegiance to the life.

Though the sounds are evolving, Skatterman is still the same person he's always been. Skatterman says. "I have a lot of trust issues -- I don't trust anybody. I'm antisocial, so when I have a show, I arrive solo. I have been an artist on a label and I have been a part of a group. This is finally my opportunity to do ME."
Trust this: Skatterman's "Street Life" will drop like a sonic blast.

“Skatterman is recognized as one of the most gifted poets of this new era! He is a modern day Shakespeare, a legend in the making”.
Stu Lennon – UK

“I am truly a fan of Skatterman, he is one of the realest cats out now!”
Freedom Williams – Formerly of C+C Music Factory

“Skatterman’s voice resonates when he spits, like a Hip-Hop Barry White, smooth and captivating on a track.”
Michell Perkins – vhopnation.com

“Skatterman is definitely a gifted story teller, you can feel every word.”
Juse – Omaha City weekly

Riding the Chocolate Wave with ChocMami … too much fun!

Seldom have I had an opportunity to speak with someone so humble who is at the same time so self-assured.  ChocMami is an adult star with a very unique radio show; she has EARNED her name as the “Female Howard Stern” in no uncertain terms.  Yes I have listened to her show AND watched some of her videos LOL … she is an over 40 woman very comfortable with herself and her sexuality … very cool!

I met her on Twitter while looking for late night hosts for a radio station I work with and what I found was an interesting person with wit and charm, not what the world may expect from an adult star. Her “140” conversation style on Twitter drew me in and I wanted to know more about her as a person and as an artist. We finally came together to pull out an interview after God slowed her butt down due to an accident at a photo shoot … here’s the conversation!  Enjoy!

Who is ChocMami, and where are you from?

ChocMami is a very open and honest female that decided to make her personal life an open book. I am a female that believes that I can do anything I set my mind too. I am also the spokeswoman for women over the age of 40 that dare to achieve their goals and dreams regardless of what people may think. I am from Greensboro, NC

How did you get that name LOL?

I got the name ChocMami from an ex-boyfriend that lived in NY. He was Spanish and he loved my chocolate complexion. I loved the name and it stuck with me from 2002 when he first started calling me this.

You are known as the female Howard Stern LOL Describe your style?

I have no boundaries on my radio show. I interview my guest and bring them into my crazy world of sexual conversation. I give them the chance for their fans and supporters to see them in a different light. They can speak openly and let their hair down. I like to push the envelope which includes having sex live while broadcasting on the air. You just never know what will come out of my mouth when I’m on the air. No one is safe when they ride “da chocolate wave”.

I have listened to some of your prank calls…you get it in LOL…what's with pranking the DJs though?
I find that DJs are very thirsty when it comes to making money. I love the fact that they are true hustlers and they have no limits when it comes to making money. So I create wild gigs just to see how far they will go for that all mighty dollar. I don’t just pick on DJs; I have even pranked a deacon. Like I said no one is safe when I’m on the air.

How has the Choclate Wave Radio show been accepted and enhanced your career?

My radio show has been truly accepted by my fans. They have come to want more of me and the show. I have gone from airing 2 nights a week to 4 shows weekly. And I think by time 2013 rolls around, I will be 7 days a week. My Slow Jam Sunday’s show is by far my best show. I feel that playing the best RnB slow jams sets the tempo for a very relaxing and romantic night. My radio show has allowed me to brand Choclate City to more than just a radio show. I also launched a digital magazine last December Choclate City Magazine.

I know you have a huge fan base…what countries are you reaching?

I have reached India, Canada, England, Germany, Korea, Africa, Saudia Arabia, and a lot of military bases overseas.

Tell us about your blog? You really open up and tell it like it is…is there a book in the works?

My blog “ChocMami Sex Talk Articles” are blogs written on my own sexual experiences in life. I open to help other women conquer their own issues sexually. I write in a voice that is clear while giving great visuals that they can picture themselves in that particular situation. I make being freaky and sensual fun. I feel good when married women DM me on Twitter and say that my stories have helped them in their bedroom life. I feel extremely good when men hit me up and tell me that their chick read my blog and let them try anal sex or had a threesome. Life is good when I hear things like that. Yes there is a book in the works. I will be working on that early 2013. If you love my blogs, then you will love the book.

Describe the music scene in your city?

The music scene in my city is funny. A lot of the artists are content being hood stars and have no desire to excel in other areas. They also don’t understand the importance of social media and growing their fan base virally.

What good is it to make good music but no one outside your city hears it?

Once I meet an artist that goes as hard as I do in my city, I will continue to work with artist in other states.

What other artists have you had the opportunity to work with?

I have worked with various artists such as Freekey Zekey, Noe, Mel Matrix, Mike Bless, Espy and Emanual DeAnda. I worked closely with Drag-On and helped him with his internet presence. We formed a very strong business relationship. He taught me a lot about the music and entertainment industry. He has allowed me to be part of Hood Environment and his comeback in the music and the big screen.

Who and what are your influences?

I would have to say my influences are my mother and my grandmothers. They taught how to be a strong woman and how to weather any storm and not give up. I owe all of my accomplishments to God. Without Him nothing would be possible. And I can’t forget Martha Mendez from M3PA Services. She helped me get structure and realize the importance of branding myself. She had patience with me and smoothing out the rough edges.

What should people expect from your upcoming projects?

I have a new panty line coming out with Trouble Tees and I have just become the female face for ATK Tees t-shirt line. I’m also working on a drinking and cooking show.

What artists are you listening to right now?

I listen to Trey Songz, R Kelly, 2 Chainz, and a lot of independent artist. I think their music is awesome.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

I would love to work with PinkyXXX on some production projects for adult movies. I want to be behind the scenes. I’m not ready for the big screen. Lol

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

I am a very humble and approachable person. I love all of my fans and supporters and I will continue to go out my way to make sure I keep them happy. I will also continue to personally respond back to emails and text messages that I get from my fans. I am recovering from shoulder surgery and once I come back I will have a new look and a surprise for everyone. 2013 will be a very big year for Chocolate City and me.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

When I was in Atlanta last year checking into my hotel and I told the guest that I was a porn star. I pulled out my blackberry and showed him a video and told him my head game was a felony. It was funny because my friends recorded the whole thing. We called it a “ChocMami moment”. I love catching men off guard and making them “rise” to the occasion.

The Hype Magazine Interview with China Moses

Tell me about China Moses?

I am an American singer who has grown up in Paris most of my life. I signed my first recording contract at the age of 15 (Virgin Records France) I started hosting music TV shows on French cable in 1999. In 2004, after the release of my 3rd album Good Lovin', I became an MTV VJ for France, which I still am. I also wrote for the french version of The Source Magazine. In 2009 I released a tribute to Dinah Washington, "This One's For Dinah" on Blue Note Records France... I tour a lot, more than 200 concerts for that Dinah Washington tribute, music has taken me to many places: Tokyo, Berlin, Stockholm, Rome, London, Moscow, Barcelona, Shanghai... I presented the French leg of the 1st International Jazz Day... I have a radio show "Made In China" on a national French radio station (Jazzradio.fr for more info) , I am the Jazz selector for 22tracks.com/paris and I just released my 5th album Crazy Blues on Decca/Universal Classics and Jazz International... I produced my albums through my production company MadeInChina Productions... I am a very passionate, don't count my hours, anything for the music type of chick.

Who are your musical influences and why?

My influences vary, depending on the day and what mood I'm in when I wake up. But if I had to name names : Millie Jackson, Tina Tuner, Bill Withers, Teena Marie, Neneh Cherry, Mc Lyte, A Tribe Called Quest, Carmen McRae, Living Color, Wes Montgomery, Grace Jones, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, all of the singers I pay tribute to on my album: Janis Joplin. Dinah Washington, Etta James, Mamie Smith, Nina Simone, Esther Philips, 'Lil Green, Peggy Lee... Every musician and arranger behind them...

What prompted you to venture into music?

Bad grades and a great family. Artistic parents that saw and heard talent before I could drive a car. A desire to share. Music is my religion, it is also an outlet. It keeps me sane.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Mischieveoushappyheartfeltrougharoundtheedges ... That's a word right? Ok fine one word : Heartfelt, that is pretty self explanatory. I have worked with some pretty amazing people Bob Power, The Ignorants, Karriem Riggins, DJ Mehdi (he will be forever missed), all of the musicians who play with me at my concerts and on my albums... These projects cannot be done without their energy and their presence and their love for my voice... It takes heart to dedicate your time. 3 times a week people put their trust in me to show them a good time...

What do you have as an artist that makes you stand out among the rest?

Great shoes and then one would have to ask the people who come to my concerts. I do believe that stage presence can take you a long way. I can sing a melody and tell some fun stories.

What is your favorite part of performing?

Seeing people smile and respond to the music. Sharing that energy. And then there is a great feeling of exhaustion that take over you after a good show.

What can your fans expect on the album you are currently pushing?

Up tempo, fun, popular blues under a jazz format. From 1920 - Crazy Blues to 1979 - Hot Stuff.  Original material that fits nice and snug with older standards. Oh and that I'm not a jazz singer, but a soul singer who loves the  musical history of America's classical musical that is paved by extra-ordinary human beings.

What do you think of today's musical trends?

It depends on which one's. But I'm a pretty retro-futurist type of gal' Even the electro music I like has to have soul. Some of the current Hip Hop trends have lost me though.

Any upcoming appearances?

Always on the road in Europe. Germany and France are the next places where I have concerts. I'm on my euro-flow...The 11th of January I'm singing in Germany with a symphonic orchestra. March in the French West Indies. On tour in Germany in March for the release of the album ... I will be playing London also in April at Ronnie Scott's...

Any advice for upcoming artists?

Trust your gut. And don't quit your day job. Find one that works around your musical passion. Oh and learn how to produce your own material. And really ask yourself why you are doing this. If money or fame is your first answer. Get a full time job. Music is no longer a hustle. It's survival of the most passionate.

Warner Bros. Records Signs Singer and Award-Winning Actress Emmy Rossum to Its Roster

Label to Release Sentimental Journey -- a Covers Collection of Classic Songs Sung by Rossum -- on January 29th, 2013

Warner Bros. Records is pleased to announce that it has signed vocalist and award-winning actress Emmy Rossum to its roster. The New York City native will release her first album for the label, a collection of covers of classic songs that span the '20s to the '60s entitled Sentimental Journey, on January 29th, 2013.

The album's highlights include its title track, which was a No. 1 hit for Les Brown and His Band of Renown with Doris Day as the vocalist in 1945; "These Foolish Things," a '30s standard that has been recorded by everyone from Nat King Cole and Bing Crosby to Rod Stewart and Michael Bublé; "Summer Wind," which was popularized by Frank Sinatra in 1966; and "I'll Be With You In Apple Blossom Time," which was a Top 5 hit for the Andrews Sisters in 1941.

"I grew up surrounded by classical music singing in the Children's Chorus at The Metropolitan Opera and when I would come home, the house was filled with the voices of Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, and Judy Garland," Rossum says. "For as long as I can remember, my mother would sing 'Apple Blossom Time' to me as a bedtime lullaby. Classics, jazz, and standards really infused my childhood and so it felt quite natural to finally make this record."

Last winter, Rossum hit upon the idea to make an album that felt like a musical calendar, an album that would take listeners on an emotional journey through the 12 months of the year. "Each song needed to either lyrically or emotionally reflect the corresponding month," Rossum explains. "Some songs were obvious fits, like 'Summer Wind' for June, 'Apple Blossom Time' for May, 'Autumn Leaves' for October, and 'Pretty Paper' for December. Others songs were less literal fits. I chose 'Nobody Knows You (When You're Down and Out)' for September because, to me, the plaintive melody and lyric emotionally reflect the cold weather creeping in and the sense of melancholy we can get in the fall months."
Recorded over three days at The Village in Los Angeles, Sentimental Journey was produced by Rossum's friend Stuart Brawley, who also co-wrote and produced her 2007 album Inside Out. "I wanted the record to sound authentically of the era, which is why I had all the musicians play live together in one room while I sang on a vintage mic in the vocal booth," Rossum says. "I love the sound of 1920's records, like the Bessie Smith songs I grew up listening to, which is why we mastered to tape. I wanted the record to have the harmonic influences of The Andrews Sisters and the swing of Sinatra records, but wanted it to also feel authentically me."

Rossum is also an acclaimed actress who currently stars in the Showtime dark comedy series Shameless with William H. Macy. She also stars alongside Emma Thompson, Jeremy Irons, and Viola Davis in the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures feature film Beautiful Creatures, which hits theaters on February 13th, 2013. Rossum's other film credits include Poseidon, Mystic River, The Phantom of the Opera (for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination), and Songcatcher (which earned her an Independent Spirit nomination). But even with her busy acting career, making Sentimental Journey is a project that is close to Rossum's heart.

"Whenever I have an artistic compulsion, I follow it," she says. "For a while I had been feeling a strong desire to make music again and a strong desire to make this kind of music -- songs written and recorded before music became synthesized and computerized-sounding, when it was just simple, beautiful songs and someone standing up and singing them. I know there are generations that are familiar with this music and the original versions, but there's also a whole generation that isn't and I really want to share these songs with that younger generation as well. I've always gravitated towards a more classic vocal approach, which likely stems from my training as a child, so I feel incredibly comfortable and happy singing these songs."

The track-listing for Sentimental Journey is as follows:
"Sentimental Journey" (Les Brown, Ben Homer, Arthur Green)
"The Object Of My Affection" (Pinky Tomlin)
"I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover "(Mort Dixon, Harry M. Woods)
"These Foolish Things (Remind Me Of You)" (Eric Maschwitz, Jack Strachey)
"(I'll Be With You) In Apple Blossom Time" (Albert Von Tilzer, Neville Fleeson)
"Summer Wind" (Heinz Meier, Johnny Mercer)
"Many Tears Ago" (Winfield Scott)
"All I Do Is Dream Of You" (Nacio Herb Brown, Arthur Freed)
"Nobody Knows You When You're Down And Out" (Jimmy Cox)
"Autumn Leaves" (Joseph Kosma, Jacques Prévert)
"Things" (Bobby Darin)
"Pretty Paper" (Willie Nelson)
Bonus Track:
Keep Young and Beautiful (Harry Warren, Al Dubin)

Pre-order Emmy Rossum's Sentimental Journey Fan Edition at www.emmyrossum.com and receive a physical CD, a calendar featuring exclusive photos capturing the album's 12 month musical journey, and an instant download of the song "Pretty Paper."

Skyler Jordan: Skyy's The Limit

$

0
As a featured vocalist on a who's who of Hip-Hop heavyweights' projects, this singer-songwriter, formerly known as Barbara Wilson, is finally ready for her much-deserved shining spot in the limelight. With her second solo collection, the just released Touch, the artist now known as Skyler Jordan, has her sights firmly set on 2013 and beyond! Watch as she prepares to take flight...

Please tell me your whole inception into music...

Growing up in our household, I’ve been surrounded by music ever since I can remember. I was always very "shy," and one Sunday morning when I was six - out of the blue I asked if I could sing "This Little Light of Mine." No one had even heard me "hum" before that day, but I just had a feeling that God had blessed me with a special gift ,and it was time (to) introduce that gift to the world.

Now, you're from Texas, by way of Los Angeles, CA, correct? So, growing up whose music did you gravitate more towards?
Correct. Our house was always filled with music. We listened to everything from "Quartets" to Motown…So, I totally respect and appreciate artists like Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner. As a fan, I love Michael & Janet Jackson, Beyonce’ and, of course, Whitney Houston. All of them are amazing artists who personify "the total package" to me.

Describe for me the style of music that you create and perform?

My music is a hybrid of R&B fused with Rock overtones. So, it’s sensuous smooth and soft, but at the same time edgy and bold. One of my producers has called my style a "Rock Princess"…And, I kinda think that describes me!

Thus far, you have worked with a number of high profile industry vets, the best of the very best; Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent, the late greats 2Pac & Nate Dogg, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, to name some -- How did some of these huge collaborations even come to fruition?

I did a lot of studio session work in Los Angles and was recommended to Dr. Dre when he was looking for a vocalist. I got the job, and after doing my first session with Dre – I started getting calls to work with more and more "high profile" artists…And, the rest is history! It’s been an honor to have been part of those West Coast rap dynasties.

Only then, you were recording under the name Barbara Wilson...What prompted your decision to change to the moniker Skyler Jordan?
Once I decided to pursue a solo career instead of just background vocals – I wanted a fresh new look…And, Skyler Jordan was born! "Barbara Wilson" was a fabulous background vocalist, and the "new" me…Skyler Jordan now stands on "Barbara’s" shoulders as an accomplished solo artist.

Are you presently signed? Or, are you planning on doing your music strictly independent?

My first CD entitled Seven was an independent release under my own label – Mylon Entertainment. And in 2011, I signed with TOC Records -- owned by Grammy Award winning engineer Terry Cruz -- for my sophomore project Touch. I enjoy the freedom that comes with being an "independent artist," and my relationship with TOC allows me to leverage the best of both worlds.

As you just mentioned, your recently released second solo LP is entitled Touch -- Why'd you decide to call the record this? And, conceptually, what exactly does that name represent?

Touch like Seven is a deeply personal project. But, Touch is a current representation of my passion, my heart, my feelings and simply everything that I "touch" in life.

Now are there any specific/personal highlights; commercial single(s), producer(s), cameo(s), favorite tracks, etc., that you'd like point out at this particular point in time?

As we were working on this project, I would listen to the tracks and say, "Oh my God, I love this song!" But, it seemed I was saying that after we completed each track.

I am particularly partial to "Blue Sky’s." It’s a song about overcoming your trials and tribulations and getting life back on track. It’s something that I think anyone who has gone through a difficult time can relate to…You just want to see blue sky’s (skies) again.

I have been blessed to work with producers Rhemario Webber, Randy Emata, Dana Sorey, Troy Gordon, Mike Corbett and Paul Jackson, Jr., on Touch. They are incredibly talented, and I look forward to working with them again on future projects.

How does Touch either differ and/or compare to that of your solo debut Seven?

Touch is a continuation of Seven. Just as I did with Seven…Poured my heart and soul into Touch. It has something for everyone, and I’m very proud of both projects.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of R&B?

R&B has taken a bit of a turn from traditional R&B, and I like the new innovative direction which some artists have taken, but I would like to see a better variety of music played on the commercial R&B radio stations. Thank God for internet radio stations, which afford diverse artists like me a chance to be embraced by fans from across the globe.

Do you have any other aspirations, maybe even completely away from entertainment?

Music is my soul, my passion and my life – So, I don’t see myself doing anything else. Making music…That’s my purpose and my gift.

To date, what has been your biggest career moment?

Wow, I’ve had some great career moments; like my performance with Rod Stewart at Madison Square Garden, opening at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and touring with the late, great Teena Marie – But, I’m not sure that I’ve reached my pinnacle…Yet!

As for the immediate future, what's next for you, Ms. Jordan?

I am looking forward to finalizing my tour, so that I can connect with and "Touch" people around the world.

Lastly, is there anything I left out or just plain forgot to mention?

I’d like to thank my heavenly Father for making me who I am and blessing me with this gift. Thanks to Hype Magazine and Todd Davis for this opportunity. And lastly, TOC Records, My SkyyTeam, family and friends – I love you and couldn’t do what I do without each of you. And, Happy Birthday to my goddaughter Wilani – As I’m finishing this interview on her special day!

Interview with Rankin Ruff aka The Dancehall Kid

$

Rankin Ruff’s passion for hip-hop started back in the 80’s when he was breakin’ and poppin’ to the sounds of Malcolm McLaren, Herbie Hancock, Run DMC, Newcleus and others on 1580 AM KDAY in Los Angeles with his friends and cousins. He recorded his favorite songs from station until he had an extensive electro and rap music collection. Of course, he remembers spending all his money on cassettes by Run DMC, Eric B. and Rakim, Grandmaster Flash and Melle Mel, Beastie Boys and LL Cool J to name a few.  He was affected by movies like Beat Street and Wild Style, which featured the best B-Boys and rappers. It didn’t take long for RR, to develop the ability to flow under the pseudonym MC Vital, by piecing together break beats to make instrumentals. Although he regrets it today, he learned to cut and scratch using his parents Beatles and Platters records.

RR soon discovered reggae music through his longtime childhood friend Marcos, who introduced him to the music of Bob Marley, Yellowman, Sister Carol, Eek-A-Mouse and Barrington Levy. It took RR a while to appreciate dancehall reggae because of the language barrier, but he picked it up and incorporated it into his own songs. At the same time, KRS-1 and Criminal Minded, Asher D and Daddy Freddy, Just-Ice and Shinehead, who were fusing rap with dancehall reggae, influenced RR. In the earlier years, DJ’s like Joey Slick (OG Sounds now Joint One Radio), DJ Kev (Made Entertainment) gave RR the opportunity to perform, freestyle and hone his skills at various events.

The Hype Magazine got a chance to interview this sensational artist and in our opinion, he’s one of the next to blow from his scene!  Enjoy the conversation!

Who is Rankin Ruff, and where are you from?

Rankin Ruff was hooked into hip-hop by Los Angeles radio station KDAY & movies like Wild Style & Beat Street in the early 80’s. He was among the early underground Asian American rap artists in Los Angeles and the first Asian American dancehall/reggae artists.  Producers Aaron Waugh & Mike Cee were the 1st duo to bring RR into the studio to record professionally. The first project was a dancehall jazz single for Motown Jazz followed by demos that later ended up on a motion picture soundtrack. RR is an active member of the Joint One Radio family.

Describe the music scene in your city?

Los Angeles is the music capital of the world with tons of live & DJ music in Hollywood and surrounding cities nightly. Most major labels have offices in LA & New York. Artists of all genres, including reggae & rap, call LA home or second home. As a former talent scout & director for top LA nightclub & event promoters and contributed to the careers of thousands major, independent & unsigned artists/groups.

Your single “Mi Naw Done” exhibits a strong, rich voice, describe your style?

Or Respect fi dat! People refer to my voice & delivery as confident & powerful. I've been rapping since the 80's, so my flows come natural and on beat. People in the clubs say, “Damn. I thought what I was hearing was a record.” I wanted "Mi Naw Done" to have the energy and rawness of a live performance. The song is about my love for reggae, hip-hop and performing.

What made you delve into the Reggae/Dancehall genre?

I started as a rapper and was inspired by legends like Newcleus, Run DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Eric B and Rakim to name a few. When KRS-1 & BDP came out with 9mm, the dancehall chorus styled after Yellowman, caught my attention. Then my friend Marcos introduced me to reggae& dancehall music like Barrington Levy, Tippa Irie, Yellowman, Sister Carol& Eek-A-Mouse to name a few. I got hooked to the melodies, started to toast (reggae rap) and followed (no not Twitter) every dancehall artist that came out. I spent all my money on music.

Dragon Eye Music is your label, can you tell us a bit about your roster and who you are launching next?

Dragoneye Music was created for publishing purposes, but I was able to expose my label & music through partners like Joint One Radio& RapAttack Lives. The chart action helped the brand get noticed on a national and international level. I have been advising PR companies, record labels, management & artists for many years but am focusing on releasing& placing songs with my production team Mixdown Bangers.

Has Your Chinese heritage created any negative reactions when you take the stage or appear at a studio for the first time?

My heritage & appearance encourages unity and removes stereotypes. Most in the scene knew or recognized me in my “more active” days. Those who didn't always received a positive & powerful shock after my performance. 92.3 The Beat, a former urban station in LA, termed the motto "no colors lines." That matched my ongoing mission, and it always stuck with me.

Tell us about your production activities…I see you recently did a piece with John B?

Yes. Stevie B aka King of Freestyle music wanted to hire me to be the marketing director for his label many years ago. Things didn't go through, but we re-connected via social media. He heard one of my songs and asked me to write one with dancehall flava, so we can do a combination. I incorporated references from his classic songs into the lyrics for fun.

Who and what are your influences?

Music itself inspires me, and I love all styles of music. It is important to have an open mind to discover new music and integrate ideas into your own creation. My favorite artists include Michael Jackson, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Sanchez, Shabba Ranks (hint), Buju Banton, Yellowman, Mary J. Blige, Stylistics, Bee Gees, Mariah Carey, Wu-Tang Clan, Black Moon, Tego Calderon, Fania All-Stars, and Joe Cuba Sextet & Ismael Rivera. You see…I’m all over the place depending on the mood I’m in or want to set.

What other artists have you had the opportunity to work with?

I've had the honor of working with Black Eyed Peas, Redfoo (LMFAO) & Dre Kroon, Pharcyde, Born Jamericans, Eek-A-Mouse. More artists I still listen to. I have free styled with DJ Joey Slick, DJ AM, DJ Rectangle, Baka Boyz, Prince Whipper Whip, DJ Jam, DJ Scratch, and DJ Hideo to name a few. I had the honor of writing songs for legendary Motown executive Larry Maxwell. Too much to name, but that's a sample. At the events I promoted, our guests included everyone from Madonna to Wesley Snipes to Melle Mel to Fred "Rerun" Berry. I’ve never record with but opened up for Supercat, Beenie Man, Barrington Levy, Yellowman and countless others. Anybody can open for big artists but I still enjoyed the opportunities.

What should people expect from your upcoming projects?

People can expect positive messages and anthems. I've been writing for Korean reggae sensation Skull. Our recent single "Cry Die" features Mix Master Mike, DJ for the Beastie Boys. Uncle Joey Slick put me in touch with Morgan Carey of Digital Riddims, so I have been writing for him. We have some positive and innovative projects in the works.

What artists are you listening to right now?

I still listen to the artists & groups I previously named & more. I've got a Rawkus compilation in my player now with Talib Kweli, Mos Def & Big L. Marley Marl's "Symphony" has been stuck in my head since it first came out, and I always have Nice N Smooth tunes on my mind. My brain is like a never-ending jukebox. Macklemore's "Thrift Shop" is a catchy new single with a good vibe. On the reggae tip, Romain Virgo gets a lot of spins from me. I always discover new artists & songs on Joint One Radio & Record Pool in addition to YouTube.

I've been busier than I've ever been in the corporate world producing & marketing events. But since writing & performing is my passion, I will continue to release music & bring in some surprise guests. With my large network & Joint One Radio behind me, possibilities are really endless. I enjoy working with positive artists & do like big names with the right chemistry, attitude and flava.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

Yes. I appreciate the continued support from Jerry Doby, Tre Carn, Joey Slick, Shuzz and the entire Joint One Family. Joint One is the central point of connection that has lead to so many recent opportunities, including this interview. Of course, thank you and Big Up to everyone at Hype Magazine!

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My WTF moment was when Eek-Mouse's manager locked us out of the hotel room in Vegas from the evening to the next morning to hook up with a girl. A very generous Eek-a-Mouse gave me a full tray of $1 coins to play slots in the lobby. I gambled, won and returned money to him plus extra. Simply put, women are powerful and cause friends to put friendships & business at risk.

My WTF moment is when Martin Lawrence made fun of dancehall reggae right after I performed on his show. I still love his show & but WTF!

I performed at Magic Johnson's Mardi Gras event with the BET House band. Someone told me my performance caused so much commotion; it pulled most of the crowd away from Diddy's artist. I won't disclose whom out of respect.

Qwintis Sential: A peek inside Indianapolis’ newest artist

On May 4, 2008, Harold Pritchett drove from Knoxville, TN to Atlanta, GA to attend a concert that would start to shape his path towards pursuing hip hop and music. It was in Atlanta that he got to see his favorite hip hop artist put on one of the best performances he had ever seen. “I remember the energy from the crowd in the building and the waving of glow sticks in the darkness, and then all of a sudden everyone just starting chanting Kanye,” Harold said. “Even before his part of the show started, I knew right then and there that music was what I wanted to do. I wanted the anticipation, excitement, and craziness from people who loved the music that I made.” Three years later in Indianapolis, Qwintis Sential was officially brought to life.

The word “different” is often thrown around to describe every new artist that comes out. Now granted, each artist typically has his or her own special characteristic that makes their music enjoyable which can lead to the artist being marketable, but exactly how different is their music from anyone else who is already out? Although Qwintis Sential uses the word “different” to describe his music, the new MC brands his music with three words: Original, Creative, and most importantly- Lyrical. So what about Qwintis Sential’s music makes him so much different than any other person trying to rap these days? Just listen to any one of the seven tracks from his EP entitled Undeniable and you will immediately hear the difference. “The positivity of my lyrics is what makes me different and separates me from the rest,” Qwin said, “as much as I hate stereotyping, there is a stigma about hip hop music that is hard to maneuver around when you are trying to break into this game to build credibility and get respect.”

THM: Tell me about Qwintis Sential

QS: Man, I’m just an artist from the Double I trying to get my music heard and turn this dream/ hobby into something more long-term and prosperous. I love everything about music, even though she aint treatin me the way that she needs to right about now (laughs). But seriously I love the writing and creative process, getting in the studio and recording, and I especially love stepping on stage and having the opportunity to perform. There is no better feeling than that. I also study a lot of music. I don’t just memorize words like most people, but I go deeper than that and really listen to the different elements within tracks by great artists. I try to pick up on what it takes to get to a level of success that creates longevity. I don’t try to be like anyone else, but I don’t think you can be great unless you study greatness- especially in hip hop.

THM: When did you first become interested in the pursuit of hip hop?

QS: I had been interested in hip hop for a while, but never really tried to work on it. But I went to Kanye’s “Glow in the Dark” tour concert in Atlanta, and his performance was my confirmation.  It was more so the reaction of the crowd than his performance and I knew that I wanted to experience that same thing. So after that, I sat down and got to writing and putting my thoughts together.

THM: What was the first song you wrote or wrote to?

QS: (Laughs) My goodness. I didn’t start off trying to write my own song because I didn’t know who I wanted to be and what I wanted to represent. I remember I heard T.I.’s “Swagga Like Us”, and immediately went to YouTube for the instrumental. The words started coming out like water- in writing though, not straight off the top of the dome. I didn’t know anything about bar counts, or timing, or anything so I just wrote until I got everything out. In reality it was probably like 25 bars or something ridiculous like that.

THM: If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?
QS: My one word would be- Me. I try to put my personality, my passion, and my heart into my music. I’m not comparing myself to a legend like Common, but just his approach to his earlier albums like “Can I Borrow A Dollar?” or “Like Water For Chocolate” is what I try to embody. Now-a-days it’s not all that popular to take that approach, so I’m fine tuning my work to hopefully have the best of both worlds.

THM: Growing up, who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

QS: Michael Jackson of course- that should be a given on almost anyone’s list. Other major players were Stevie Wonder, Dru Hill, Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Outkast, and of course Kanye West. All of the rappers on the list have something very different about them that make them distinguishable and timeless. They inspire me to write better, dig deeper, and be more creative in my rhymes. They set the bar pretty high, but I aim higher.

THM: Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

QS: I am not currently signed. I am strictly independent at this point, but I am open to the idea of signing with a small indie label and teaming up with other artist that are chasing the same dream.

THM: How would you classify your sound and/or style?
QS: I am honestly not sure of how I would classify my style or my sound. I do stand by my lyricism and my creativity. Like I said before, all of the greats have a sound that is their own that other folks want to mimic for their own success. That’s my goal; I don’t want to classify my sound or style until I have made it because I don’t want to be compared to anyone else. I feel like I am on my way to being the best and I believe whole heartedly that I can hold my own on a 16 with anybody. Shoot better yet, I can out-write anyone if we go 16 for 16.

THM: On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

QS: You know, I’m just gonna say that it is what it is. Could the game use some more diversity in terms of artists with different content? Absolutely. But at the same time I realize that it’s all about the fans and what you can bring to the table. You can be different like a Lupe Fiasco and the road is going to be long and hard, or you can be like those one-hit wonders that drop a hot single and are never heard from again. But the really successful ones have a way of making people want to listen to their music, and you have to play with the formula to figure out how to do that. So it is what it is.

THM: What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

QS: Yo, the craziest performance that I have ever seen was my homies of the rap group Skully out of Youngstown, OH. It was probably the craziest performance and the best performance all in one. Their single is called “DJ Play My S**t” and they go off on that song. I’m talking about ripping off wife beaters, stripping down to their draws, jumping from the big speakers on to the stage, running through the crowd, running to the photo area and pretending to take pictures, one dude curled the another dude- all while rapping their songs. Yo, it was the wildest thing I have ever seen, and I loved it.

THM: If there is one thing that you could tell people who have never heard your music, what would it be?

QS: Give it a chance. My music is definitely different than what you’ll hear from anyone else. Yea, yea I know everybody and they momma and daddy says the exact same thing, but dag on it I mean it. If you actually sit and listen to the words and the message, then I guarantee that you will come away liking what you hear. But you have to be open-minded though, that’s the key.

THM: Alright one last thing… Where can we find your music?

QS: I’m on just about everything. Reverbnation, SoundCloud, Facebook, Twitter, Datpiff. Go to any of those sites and type in Qwintis Sential and you should see my profile come up. I have new music on the way, and the music that you hear is only the beginning!
