The Hype Magazine Interview with Unknown

Tell me about Unknown?

I would like to think of myself as a simple-minded, optimistic, humble, and hard working person. My 4 year old twin boys are my life with music being everything after that.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of Hip-Hop?

I would have to say I became interested in the pursuit of Hip-Hop about the age of 13 or 14. Free styling was not enough for me, I just had to make a song and hear how I sounded. See I was a big Biggie fan, so back then big poppa was my jam I had to make my own remix. At that time you got friends and family plus people that don’t like you, all telling you to grow up and you’ll never make it. That’s my motive not the money or women, just to see a couple changed faces and to be on stage!

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Man, I think I would have a couple different styles. If I had to describe my style in one word I couldn’t, I would have to go with two words “catch phrase”. See when I write my music it’s more than just rhymes to me. I try to be creative about it; from the words I use to the way I use them, I just want to catch your attention. I’m constantly revising myself when I write; I want to be sure my fans can feel me.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

Growing up it was defiantly Biggie and Tupac for sure, come on their legends in this game. Also though I would have to give my respect to Paul Wall with his charisma, Wu-Tang lyrically their genesis, and I really loved the old school Bone Thugs-N-Harmony back in the day with the way they incorporated singing with their rap!

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

No I’m not signed at the moment too much politics with being signed and a lot more freedom with being independent.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

I couldn’t classify my sound or style; I’ve heard many diff suggestions from the down south flavor to the Cali flavor. I’d like to consider my style of music a little different, but I would defiantly have to say I love doing that “Riding Music”.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

No defiantly not, I just feel there is so much in the underground part of Hip-Hop that people don’t even know about. Most people just hear what is on the radio and complain about hearing the same songs over and over. I would have to blame the radio stations though; really it’s their part to put their city on the map you know shed a little light. I just wish people would do research on the underground state of Hip-Hop, there’s a lot of talented people doing things out here you don’t know about!

As for the immediate future, what's next?
Right now I’m working on my next Cd, and I really like how it’s turning out so far. I’m going to have a lot of new tracks and new features, there’s going to be a lot of talent on this cd. Until then I’m going to keep rocking the stage for my fans and give them what they want, you know it’s all about the fans anyway I have so much love for them!

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My craziest “Where they do that at?!” moment would have to be; waking up on the lawn of a I.U. students one morning. If you’ve never been to a little 500 in Bloomington I suggest you go. Some of the best parties you can go to happen their!

The Hype Magazine Interview with LS Lane

Taking her hustle mentality coupled with real life adversities and pain, LS uses her pen as her magic wand and the mic as her sword. Lois “LS” Lane is a reflection of her on stage transformation which occurs in a matter of seconds. Her Superman simply forms in the image of a handheld microphone where the dynamic virtue can not be ignored. With an undeniable sex appeal and beauty, this gifted lyricist, SINGER, songwriter, producer, model, & host is more than just a pretty face.

By the age of 13, LS (originally presented as Lady Shaun) was performing in high school talent shows working the crowd and spitting rhymes. With her love of music and the arts, LS continued to hone her skills and craft by writing, performing in showcases throughout her native Louisville, Kentucky community and joining a local band. As time passed and her focused shifted, LS was determined to take her career to the next level. With her no nonsense attitude, motivation and desire to be the next platinum selling artist, LS relocated to Atlanta WITH A DREAM.

Never one to stay constant, LS emerged with a new swag and persona (LS: The Last Standin'). In a city like Atlanta, there is no shortage of talent so LS had to make her mark and she has done so by being versatile. On the musical side, LS tours the Southeastern Regional markets doing shows and expanding her ever-growing fan base. In addition, she has opened for such noted artists as Teyana Taylor and Chrisette Michelle,MYA, EightBall & MJG, 112, Field Mob, Da Brat, Ying Yang Twins, Crystal Waters, and Trina to name a few. LS continues to challenge herself as an artist and performer as a front vocalist with Hip Hop/R&B cover band Culture Sol, and background vocalist for corporate cover band, Atlanta Rhythm & Groove. She has added performances on the Carnival Cruise lines on her resume as well as performances at the Atlanta and Nashville Gay Pride Festivals for the last five (6) years.

 Tell me about LS Lane?

LS Lane is an American entertainer, songwriter, singer, lyricist, and television host born and raised in Louisville, KY.  She discovered her love for the stage and performance at age 4 after she was entered into a local beauty pageant and won the title.  She has been constant and accomplished in her achieving her dreams in arts and entertainment.  LS moved to Atlanta, GA in 2000 to pursue her goals even further and it has been quite a ride.  I am the oldest of six sisters and I have a great responsibility in being a little big sister and showing my sisters how to persevere and how not to let other people belittle them or make them feel less than what they know they are worth.  I discovered my gift of songwriting and performing live at the age of 12 and I have been going every since. I am in the groove and loving it all.  I obviously love it for me to still be here pushing as hard as I know how.  I have toured, I have promoted, I have fought, cried, bled, and given so much towards what I believe in, and that is a dream of ultimate success.  Since discovering my love of performance and art I have accomplished much and learned so much more at the same time and I hold it close to me and protect it with my heart.  My most recent achievement is winning Atlanta's Search for the Coldest MC competition (hosted by #CoorsLight, Ice Cube, and DJ Drama) where I was challenged by a guy from NY.  From the regional win I was flown off to NYC for the finals to compete against 8 other guys from other US cities, and I was humbled and proud to be titled as the runner-up in the entire competition!! I hate competitions and battles because that is not what I feel my purpose is, but taking chances is what I am in to, and look at the outcome.  This was just motivation for me to go ahead and take my movement to the next level.  I've been to NYC twice since to perform in the club scenes there.  I am excited about tomorrow..

Who are your musical influences and why?

I have been influenced over time by a few acts and figures:  Outkast, TLC (Left-Eye), Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Josephine Baker, Micheal Jackson & Prince, Busta Rhymes, John Lennon, President Obama,   All of these influences have set outside the box and looked inward/upward.  They were able to see the bigger picture and they set out to capture the world with their views, their inspirational music.  They understand the people and what they want, and they have given much of themselves through what they love.  It's not always about YOU and I can see through what these artist have created that they not only love themselves, but they LOVE.  These are the footsteps that I want to follow in~ DARE TO BE DIFFERENT!

What prompted you to venture into Hip-Hop?

Well, I could say that it was by accident, but that would be a false statement.  In my freshman year of high school I quickly gained popularity status through playing sports and being active in different events and clubs, and just being a clown, period. When it was time for the school talent show, of course I had to sign up just because there was a stage to showcase on. What I was going to do, I had no idea!  Poetry seemed to be what everyone else was into, so why not play my hand.. Now during this time I had just started really listening to hip-hop and getting into the art of it,  Da Brat, TLC, and West Cost rap were my top picks.  Time came for me to write my poem and the first line went a little something like this: "I'm Boom-Boomin in my Jeep and I got the flava...". Hmmmm, poetry? I don't think so!  It was very rhythmic and dying to bust out of the simple poetic format that I had created.  "fuck it!  this is rap, and I'm doing it".  And that's all she wrote, talent show night came and that's the beginning of my musical history.  So many encouraged me to continue and my delivery was perfect, people want ed me in their groups and I ate it all up.  It has been all worth it.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Transcending.  Because there is a musical gap and I don't like it.  I grew up listening to everything, as I said before I didn't really get into listening to real hip-hop until high school, and I didn't like that I was missing out on it either.  There is a divide between the music substance and creativity.  My driving force is to bring together the ages and the cultures.  I love music, all of it, and I have the need to express that in what I write.  Every time I  perform, my goal is to bring everyone together - and I do.  My job is to entertain, but what is it if I only half-step with it.  To see the people, (all of them) come together with smiles and rhythm in their souls during my performances is what moves me.  That is a wonderful feeling and almost brings me to tears at the same time.  That's worth it!

What do you have as an artist that makes you stand out among the rest?

I am passionate, I deliver and charge like a roaring lion(ess). It goes beyond hip-hop, I am a seasoned entertainer who speaks of real life situations, not the streets or what this or that *igga did or that *igga said.  I don't wait for anyone who says what they can do, to do anything for me and my movement.  My motivation comes from deep within and I am not here to win anyone's approval to be accepted into their clicks or bands.  I am a one woman show for the most part and everything I have accomplished is because I went out and got it just because I wanted to see if I could really do this.  I have shocked and scared myself silly and it's become a habit that I can't quit.  I have been told no and let down because I would not compromise what I know to be my self worth or moral value, and I am okay with that.  It has made me stronger and pushed me to work harder.

What is your favorite part of performing?

LOL!  When I go out, unless I'm with my "click", I'm usually really laid back, checking out the scene and not really saying much, just ready to perform so I can get out of there to move on to the next task.  My favorite part of performing is when people misjudge you without knowing you or ever seeing you or your act before - the look on their faces.  I think most expect me to be your typical female rapper, and that I am not.  My show is action packed with great energy that I aim straight in the crowds face, my vocals and control is dynamic and I assume a lot of people in the underground arena aren't used to this. (and my good looks don't help much ;) lol)  The faces - I love the faces of my people, especially the boys.  They're usually front row within my view mouths open, head nodding, smirking.  My ladies are all smiles, hands in the air, listening to catch on to the next hook and rocking with me, or either listening and watching with their heads slightly cocked to the side and arms folded taking me all in.   At first, I didn't know how to take this and though it to be bad.  But I love what I do too much to believe that it's nothing good.  Even if it were a negative response, I'd make it into a positive.  I love it too much and I am certain that it "shows"

What can your fans expect on the album you are currently pushing?

I don't know if many are ready for what I am going to release 1st Quarter 2013!  I'll have to work my hardest once more to prepare them.  I know who will expect it though and I am taking it directly to them, (not in the streets though.)  "GET LIVE OR GET LOST" will stand strong to it's name.  I will break it down, show-n-tell style on what it is to GET LIVE OR GET LOST!!! This will be an album for everyone one young and older.  Were going to dance party, were going to sweat, were going to fight, make love, cry, scream, fly..  There is no limit to this journey were about to take.  Universal Linguistics

What do you think of today's musical trends?

Music has just evolved as most things and trends do.  As far as my hip-hop/rap culture, I do feel we could do a better in providing a better fulfilled music with substance for our upcoming generations.  Still feel free to express ourselves through hip-hop, but the world is watching, the youth are listening and emulating or adult lives.  Anybody can rhyme and out together a song, but where is the creativity, the thing that makes you last long in this industry.  Push to be GREAT, there is too much room to be so.  I do like how hip-hop/pop and dance culture are coming together to create these great dance songs and anthems, but at some point this will get old too because everyone is doing it. Set trends and margins for others to follow.  I wish we could go back to the times where MTV would play all musical content.  There is a difference in the generation that watched MTV, BET, VH1 during my time than there is now... The evil people of the world have forced a disconnect upon us and it is alive and seen very clearly amongst us all.  Music bridges gaps, it brings all people together, I'd like to see more of my musicians and artist us this tool before we really destroy ourselves completely.  There are no rules when it comes to musical creativity.

Any upcoming appearances?

I perform and travel weekly with my cover bands.  I also have my own band "IN BETWEEN" and we have our first debut performance this Saturday, October 27 at The Basement in Atlanta, Ga!  And another live performance at The Time 2 Shine event in November hosted by Mu Legend with guest performance by Ray Lavender. I am so eager to show everyone what I mean when I present my band.  Stay Tuned for more details on this new wave!

Any advice for upcoming artists?

Know that what you see of these big named artist who have excelled, is not something that they have achieved overnight.  Be willing to learn and know your craft throughout.  A lot of upcoming artist seek fame, money, cars, girls; it's bigger than what you see.  Be passionate and driven and don't let anyone sell you their dream.  Follow your own way, and if you believe it - you can achieve it by staying true.  There is no need to compromising your self worth, if it's in you and if it is for you - that is so.  Short cuts and easily become a @#$ Up and I'd hate to know that my striving artist will allow themselves to get lost in the wild.  It's very easy to get lost.. Stay Focused & Faithful, Stay Humble, Stay Active, and Stay True

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My craziest moments are all captured during my gigs out of town or my college gigs with my cover bands.  I had never experienced streaking before until a gig at Princeton University about a year ago.  Now we're in this huge frat house, (if you know how Princeton's infrastructure is built you could probably imagine the scene.) 3 stories, ancient, and a bit scary.  There are a group of frat guys at the bottom of the stairs chugging and chanting their drunken chant after we just finished rocking the house.  Out of no where this mixed Asian girl comes through streaking and screaming with joy, and the crowd goes wild.  She runs up 1 level and runs through that floor, she re-appears to make her way up to the third level and back down to the ground level and disappeared.  I was shocked, happy, and free all over again.  Good for her.  I don't care what they say about Princeton, they know how to have a good time and welcome you warmly.  "I Love College"!!

"Pinqy Ring is one of the dopiest MCs I have heard in quite a long time … I would try to put my spin on her and her story but she is so damn unique that in my humble opinion, only SHE can lay it out for you! I will just say that she is one of the newest writers on The Hype Magazine editorial roster but with her lyrical skills, we may not have her for long. Her single “Tickets” with Bo Deal of Waka Flocka’s Brick Squad Monopoly, is an exposé of those fake rappers claiming to be rich or ‘gangsta’ when it simply isn’t the truth." - Jerry Doby (The HYPE Magazine)

Tell me about Pluto?

Pluto is the latest addition to the ranks of talented music artists from New Orleans. Born on June 15 of 1993, Pluto provides great quality music for the world to enjoy. From the hip hop industry to pop world, Pluto's unique style causes individuals to open their ears and vibe to the great sound of good music. you put talented, creative, hard working, and real together you get Pluto.

Who are your musical influences and why?

Nas, Tupac, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole. All of these artists made something out of nothing and showed me I can do the same if I try hard enough. Also, they don’t just rap about money, clothes, cars, and women, but they rap about what’s important. Real Life!

What prompted you to venture into music?

I always loved music and was good at writing songs since I was younger. God gave me the opportunity to make something out of my talent with music so I’m going for it.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Influential; Because I make songs to influence people how to grind, be their selves, and make the world a better place to live in.

What do you have as an artist that makes you stand out among the rest?

I have a business state of mind and huge drive. There are many rappers who are talented, but don’t have the tools to get their talent out there. I on the other hand know there’s way more to the music industry than just being a good artist. My drive is remarkable. I’ve put in a ton of work and it’s just the beginning. There’s no way I am stopping now.

What is your favorite part of performing?

Going into the crowd and interacting with my fans! I love leaving an event knowing that people had a good time and I was the reason for that.

What can your fans expect on the album you are currently pushing?

People can expect a bit of everything from songs where I speak about my struggles and things I’ve been through, to songs where I just go in and kill the instrumental. There are songs that my listeners can party to, and also songs for the females. Most of all I want people to get the meaning of the message behind the whole album, and that is to “Live Free”.  Schedule to be release in March.

What do you think of today's musical trends?

It’s dope how many different styles of music there is to listen to. There are rappers like Kendrick Lamar who I like to zone out to. Then there are rappers like 2 Chainz who I like to listen to when I feel like getting turnt up! There are different types of music and styles for everybody and I love it.

Any upcoming appearances?

New video’s from the album for my fans dropping real soon!

Any advice for upcoming artists?

For any upcoming artists out there, find yourself, and be yourself. If your listeners can relate to your music it creates a loyal fan base; Make people need your music rather than want it. Everything can change in a year so keep grinding, and be professional.

Man, I saw the most trifling stuff at Mc Donald’s the other day.  I was coming out of the drive thru and this over weight guy, who had to be at least 300 pounds, was taking a dump on the side of his car. Where they do that at?! I guess he couldn’t make it to the bathroom.

Tell me about Doc Frank ?

Doc Drank is a artist from Dayton, Ohio who decided he didn’t like paying for beats, and didn’t like how his business was ran. He also decided he would learn how to wear the producer and CEO hat. Doc Frank is a black man. Doc Frank is an MC.

Who are your musical influences and why?

My favorite rapper is Notorious BIG, but my biggest influence is Barry Gordy and the whole Motown movement.

What prompted you to venture into music?

I'm from Dayton, Ohio and my uncle is one of the funk legends, so as a kid it was normal to go get ice cream with Roger Troutman or to have Shugga Foot (from the Ohio players) at the house. I thought everyone had gold records and studios in their house!

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Diverse; That’s how I create.

What do you have as an artist that makes you stand out among the rest?

I'm a student of music. My ambitions go further than being the best rapper.

What is your favorite part of performing?

Knowing the crowd understands; It's nothing like meeting eyes with a fan and knowing he gets it, (you know?) that they are with me!

What can your fans expect on the album you are currently pushing?

Real music not trendy music; I've got a little bit but its still me and its still good, u feel me?

What do you think of today's musical trends?

I think as musicians, it's our job to make what people want to hear. This is a business.

Any upcoming appearances?

Any advice for upcoming artists?

Ask yourself what makes u different and run with that! Strive to be original!

A Chat With Bless Of Camp Inc Records/Films

$

1. Bless, you are originally from Detroit, MI. and currently live in Miami, Fl. What made you make the move and what differences do you see in the music scene?

I moved to Miami seeking opportunities I couldn’t find in Detroit.
I stayed because I found them, and I like the scenery. Music in
Detroit has a different style. It’s about life. It’s harsh – a
reflection of it’s environment. Miami music tends to be lighter – all
about partying, about what you can buy.

2. Tell us about the new album "Relentless", what type of flavor can listeners expect to hear? What message do you want listeners to walk away with after they hear the album?

Relentless, a follow-up to my album Closure, is a reflection of my
life now. It’s a collection of upbeat songs saying how I’m feeling.
It’s about love and good times. There’s a lot more story telling and
more club sound. I want listeners to just enjoy the album, knowing
that the only reason they’re able to be listening to it is because I
never gave up on myself. I want them to feel that anything is possible
provided they keep going toward their goals and dreams

3. Karli and Rudy V. are the other 2 artists in your camp, tell us about them?

Rudy V is my right hand man. He’s my producer and he’s a genius at
it. He produced almost all the tracks on this album. This album
wouldn’t even be possible if it weren’t for Rudy and the sound he’s
created.

Karli is the queen of the camp. She’s multi-talented and the only
female on the roster. She sings, dances, models, and acts. There’s
nothing that this girl can’t do, and she has thick skin – a
requirement for hanging out with all of us guys.

4. How did the 3 of you meet?

It’s funny. Miami is a small pool of actors. I met Rudy on the set
of Burn Notice. We spent half the day right next to each other but
never saying a word. Then music came up. I told him about my work. He
told me about his. We exchanged phone numbers with the intention of
finding a time to talk about how we could work together. It took us
running into each other on sets on repeat occasions before we finally
sat down and talked. We’ve been working together ever since.
Rudy and I met Karli on another set. After the taping we all went out
for drinks and started talking about the other things we were into.
Karli as it turned out was a singer. So, we decided to bring her to
the studio. Then, we signed her, and she’s been a part of the team
ever since.

5. As a child did you ever have any other dreams other than being in the music biz or did you always want to do this?
I wish I could say the music business is what I had always wanted
to do, but my first passions were basketball and finance. Music was a
hobby I shared with the other neighborhood kids. I didn’t take it
seriously until I was older and found myself leaning toward it more
and more. Now it’s everything.

6. What do you think the industry is lacking today compared to the music of the 90's?

Music has been heavily influenced by technology. It’s less personal
because musicians don’t even have to be in the same country to record
together. Artists have to be a lot more concerned about their online
presence and things like Twitter and Facebook  followers, which I
think takes away from their focus on the music.

7. Of course all the ladies want to know if you are single?

Yes, I am.

8. Who would you say are you biggest musical influences?

Jay-Z, P-Diddy, Dr. Dre because I admire how they took the
opportunities they got from music to move themselves into other
industries. This is the path I am following as well. Camp Inc just
started a new film division.

9. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself being in the same league with those people I admire.
When someone mentions all the greats, I’ll be in the list. Camp Inc
Records and Camp Inc Films will be household names.

10. What advice would you give the youth that dream of being in the music industry?

I’d tell them to be patient. Make sure that the people around you
are people who will help you not bring you down. Keep a positive
attitude no matter how things look at time. Remember that it’s 10%
music and 90% business.

11. In closing, where can fans find your music and follow your movement?

Fans will be able to access our music via CampIncRecords.com. For
the latest in what we’re doing, they can follow us on Twitter
@BLESSCampInc @KarliCampInc, @RudyVCampInc, @CampIncRecords and

Voice N Barz Taking Over The Scene!

$

0

1. We love the name Voice N Barz, who came up with that name?

Voice N BarZ is a name that kind of made itself. those are the names that we were using on our solo ventures before we started doing music together, so when we became one it just went together like a puzzle.

2. Tell us about how the 2 of you came together to form this dynamic duo? How long have you known each other?

We've known each other for years man, it was bound to happen eventually. We were both doing music in high school and decided to do a track together, the chemistry was so perfect that it was an obvious choice to do music together for as long as this business will let us. So far I think its working out pretty well.

3. Growing up did you guys always want to be in the music industry? If not what were your childhood dreams?

We've both had music in our blood from day one. We have so many family members that were and still are in the business that its something that just kinda takes you over. When you're around music all the time its natural for you to want to do it yourself. We're just blessed enough to have the talent to be where we are.

4. You have been compared to the likes of Jodeci, Boyz to Men and Jagged Edge, who are your musical influences?

Those are VERY high standards to live up to. All of those guys are legends, so when we hear our names mentioned with them its really an unbelievable honor. As far as our R&B music goes those guys are definitely some of our greatest influences, If you make R&B music and someone asks you your influences its gotta be them, so to be compared to them is an amazing feeling. We also do hip hop music as well, so there is a list of influences that runs on for days. 2pac, Biggie, Drake... just to name a few.

5. If you guys could pick one artist or group from the 50's or 60's to perform with who would it be?

We would have to say Marvin Gaye and The Temptations, Those guys are the epitome of good music. To be able to step on stage with those guys would be incredible.

6. We understand that you are involved in charitable events as well, what do you think it takes to be a strong role model for the youth? What are you guys doing to make sure you live up to those standards?

To be a strong role model in this world is VERY hard. There are so many temptations for these kids now adays. So we do our best to live up to those standards by showing them that there are other ways to get the things in life that you want without getting pulled into a life that you will eventually regret. Show them who they CAN be, that's the most important thing.

7.What element do you feel is missing the music industry today?

REALITY.... Everybody is so tied up into reality TV and Movies that are based on reality, but where is the reality in the music? In todays music there's a belief that if you make music from the heart that it makes you soft, but the truth is that the greatest songs ever written are the ones that people can relate to. We try to make music that people can say "Yeah, I been there." That is without a doubt the element that is missing. WITHOUT A DOUBT.

8. Of course the ladies all want to know if you guys are single?

Oh boy, that's a question we answer all too often (laughs). We'll try to keep the chaos to a minimum and just say that we're not officially taken, hows that? (laughs)

9. You have toured and opened for many major artists such as Sugarhill Gang, Mr. Cheeks, Stevie B and more, what can you say you have learned from that experience?

When you get to be around those guys it shows you an example of hard work. You know what they had to do to be who they are and where they are. Those are great guys that it's a pleasure to be able to take the stage with.

10. What are you currently working on and what was your latest release?

The Hype Magazine Interview with Nina 9

Tell me about Nina9?

First of all Nina9 is an open minded individual. I'm very competitive not necessarily against all my peers but against myself. I'm one those hard working artist that acknowledges that I don't know it all, and that whats makes it so much more of a jewel to want to grow to my full potential.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of music?

I've always been intrigued by music ever since my preteens. If I could really put a stamp on it, I would have to say: When I was three years of age. I remember when Coolio's "Gangsta Paradise" came out and it was all over the radio and television. I used to braid my hair to look like his (Coolio) and I would put my big brothers shades on and recite the lyrics in front of my family. It wasn't so much as Coolio inspired me, it was just the whole aura that hip-hop inspired us as young free-spirited children. No matter my placement in the industry, music will forever be apart of me.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Immeasurable. I use this word because, I refuse to be boxed in just one style. You know, the one beat, one flow with the same old chanting hook. Pretty much I like to do what comes to my heart, say what I feel in my spirit, and never let my mind be chained to this worlds music expectations.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

Missy Elliot without a doubt! Timbaland, Creed, Gwen Stefani, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Too Short, DMX, and Drag-on but one of my personal favorites is the SUC legend Z-Ro.

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

I am, at this moment, an independent artist but I will disclose that I do have offers on the table from
major labels. I'm just choosing not to rush in on them right now. I feel I need to put in more ground work.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

Oh that's easy, Unclassifiable. Honestly there is no telling what I will do or say when I get into
my sanction.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

To be honest, yes I am. Right now we have alot of vibrant artists out. For instance, we have MMG, Young Money, and their expanding rosters. We have fresh new artists like Kendrick Lamar & Don Trip who constantly remind us the reality of hip-hop from different perspectives.

As for the immediate future, what's next?

Obama 4 More Years! Oh you meant with me? Its not really up to me, I'm just his child so whatever God has for me I'll just accept it as his will.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!”

You know, I was just talking to my friend about this.  I had a big show for one of the biggest DJ's in TX and I'm on stage performing, I look in the crowd and see these ducks (worthless girls) dressed in their underwear with nylon colored fishnet tops & bottoms on. I was like who in the world cast their net out into the sea looking for a mermaid and reeled in these hammer head sharks. They make my state look bad and that's what I don't like!!!

I would like to thank The Hype Magazine for pushing the envelope. Thank you everyone in the world for contributing to hip-hop our culture made for us by us. Love you Hype Magazine Peace & God.

The Hype Magazine Interviews Fellah

From the crude streets of Polk County, FL emerges young, hip-hop superstar, FELLA. Born and raised in the heart of Lakeland, Florida, FELLA took comfort in the streets where his run-ins with the law and felony drug charges almost landed him in prison for 10 years in late 2005. Due to his foresight and knowledge of the justice system, FELLA was able to beat his charges and only served 2 years in Florida state corrections. His incarceration only enhanced his passion for the music industry. While serving time he focused on becoming a stronger artist and began to sharpen his talents as a writer, rapper, and composer.

After his release, FELLA was faced with even more trying times as his mother and nephew were wrongfully accused and sentenced to over 10 years in prison. The injustice sparked an undeniable will to succeed within the artist. When asked about his drive FELLA references his son, family, and his quest for justice. “I’m new to the game and I turned to the studio to stay out of trouble and to make sure my family is straight,” FELLA says. “I have a story to tell, this rapping thing comes easy, and I just sit back and think of all the things that have happened to me, the good and the bad.”

A mercenary story teller on the beats, FELLA was sought after and eventually signed a record deal with Big Gates Records in the summer of 2009. Less than a week after his record deal, FELLA released his first mix tape “Pill & A Half” hosted by then label mate Plies. “Pill & A Half” rapidly took off and began FELLA’s fast track towards being a staple in the entertainment industry. “Pill & A Half” was such a huge success that it inspired 4 additional mix tapes titled “2Pills & A Half,” “3Pills & A Half,” “Ova Dose,” and “The Prescription,” respectively, all of which received rave reviews and thousands of downloads.

FELLA’s new project, his 6th mix tape “The Refil” will drop Oct. 30th and is hosted by popular Atlanta DJ, DJ Holiday. Well respected for his many self taught musical talents, and a proven ingredient to what the music industry has been missing, FELLA is in the process of adding a new title to his growing resume with the start his own label “I-4 Money Gang.”  FELLA has worked with artists such as Plies, Pleasure P, Jeremiah, Pit Bull, and Future, who's featured on his new single, "Money."

Tell me about Fella?

I'm from Polk County, Fl where dreams don't come true. The real n****s are either dead or in the feds. You probably hear the same story from every rapper but there isn't anything fabricated about mine. My mama is doing a 10 year bid and my nephew is doing 25. I'm just trying to win for now and then turn a negative into a positive. I'm 26years old and did a 2 year prison bid on drug charges. I utilized my time learning how to put my life into bars and came home and signed a deal with plies and his brother (big gates) of  big gates records. Things went sour and I teamed up with a boss n**** out my city named Sean Gotti and we started our own label I4MG, I-4Money Gang- now we're building an empire. Fella is just a country ass n**** with a city boy dream.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of Hip-Hop?

Because it was an outlet to me, I always had swag and growing up I always was interested in the streets. My older sister's boyfriends were drug dealers so I always was caught up in that street stuff and when I was younger my mama was real strict on me. I couldn't do nothing but go to school, church, and home so the music was the closest I could get to the streets and I became very in-tune.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

(THERAPY)  because it helps u get through life, the good and bad. I've been through it all from being adopted to being served papers on drug charges. I know what its like to have a sack today and be dead broke tomorrow.  I know what it's like to feel like they forgot about you, but my music will get me through life and if you can comprehend, my music is therapy cause it heels.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

T.I, DMX, JADAKISS, TUPAC & SCARFACE, but mainly Tip because his first album came out when I was like 14 or 15. I was going thru all the stuff he was rapping on "I'm serious", after that he was all
I wanted to hear because I knew he knew something.

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

I'm currently singed to Big Gates Records but my lawyer is in the process of getting me out of my deal because I'm independent and I don't have no label budget. I do everything independent from the feature with future to my new mixtape with Dj Holiday, which came out October 30th.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

I never worry about anything else but self. As long as I'm making money, I'm good. When the money stops coming, I know its time for change, I'm happy with it.

As for the immediate future, what's next?

I am just trying to build Fella as a brand and build a empire; (I4MG) in the process.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

When n****s see how hard you grinding and see you're paying your dues then ask for a free verse!

The Hype Magazine Interviews Michael Shelly!

Tell me about Michael Shelly?

I'm 19 years old from Bonita Springs, Florida. Though new to the scene, my goal is to set new trends in the Orlando area as a fusion-recording artist. I combine Electro, Hip-Hop, Pop, Punk, and R&B together for a new sound.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of music?

I've been playing instruments ever since I was a little kid. I was trained to read and write music but I never really thought of turning it into a career until my senior year in high school. I realized that I really didn't want to do anything else besides music. I went to The F.I.R.S.T School in Orlando, Florida to study audio engineering and music production.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and w
hy?

"Unexpected"; When I play my music for people it usually catches them off guard and forces them to listen because it's different or because they don't expect it from me. Also when people hear my music without seeing me, they picture someone totally different.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

Growing up, my foster mother was my biggest influence; she was highly encouraging and she exposed me to a lot of different music. Now, I would say, in music, I look up to Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B, The-Dream, & Pharrell to name a few. I feel like they all came out with a original sound and that's why they have been so successful in the music industry.

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

Currently, I'm independent looking to get as much exposure as possible and to get as many people as possible to hear my music and become fans.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

Hip-hop with elements of electro, pop, & punk rock

Tell me something about yourself that people may be surprised to know?

I'm up to challenge anyone at Tetris! I'm a beast!

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

I'm happy to see the direction that hip-hop is going. Even though we still have some cookie-cutter rappers, there are several emerging artists that have their own unique style/swag and they are incorporating other genres and new elements to their music.

As for the immediate future, what's next?

I just released my first mix-tape “Professional Daydreamer”, everybody needs to download it! Promo, Promo, Promo! I am also prepping for shows and travel, and of course working on new music for my next project releasing early next year.

Who all did you work with on your mix-tape?

I worked with a few musicians including: my main guitarist, Jonny Whynock; my engineer, Brandon "Mister B The Blender" Speed; and singers Roqouis and Andre Vega. For the most part I produced all of the tracks. Whenever you hear the "Coin", that's me.

What has been your most memorable music industry related experience thus far?

Some of my most memorable moments have been from being at the studio my manager runs, and being able to talk to some of the artists and producers that come through, like B.o.B, Kane Beatz, and many others.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I was watching a video on Youtube and they had this guy, with a jet-pack shooting out water, hovering over a lake. I have to go do that!

Any parting words?

The Hype Magazine Interviews Fhayze

Hip-hop artist Fhayze recently released the mixtape, “Apologizes R N Order.” The project is presented by Coast 2 Coast and is now available for free download.

Fhayze is a 24 year old hip-hop recording artist from Charlotte, North Carolina. He started experimenting with music after he watched a rap cipher in 8th grade. Since then, Fhayze has worked hard to master his craft and become a force in the industry.

“In the beginning very few people knew I was trying to be a rapper. I just felt like everyone was doing it, so I didn’t want to say I could rap until I thought I was better than them all,” says Fhayze.

After graduating high school, Fhayze joined the army and went overseas to Korea. During this time, he became more serious about being a hip-hop artist and began writing his lyrics. To date Fhayze has performed at various venues and is a first place winner of a Coast 2 Coast Industry Mixer.

“Apologizes R N Order” is his first official project and is now available for free streaming and download.

Tell me about Fhayze?

I'm an aspiring Hip Hop artist from Charlotte, NC.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of music?

I would say, around 2006 after I graduated from high school; I always had a thing for music but never really thought to pursue it as a career, until after graduation.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

“Unexpected” I say this because every time I make a record, I strive for it to be something the fans are not expecting. You have to be different in the game in order to stay relevant.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

A lot of jazz music; No artist in particular. I just like to hear the different instruments and how the songs are so well put together. As far as hip hop;  A Tribe Called Quest, Jay Z, and Outkast. Any artist who has changed or made a mark in the game.

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

Right now I'm independent. H.F. Music Group is the label, we are unsure if we're looking for a major right now. The way the game is going, a lot of artist are doing it by themselves.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

I really don’t like to classify my sound or style to be honest. I think that’s how you get caught up in the comparisons. I would rather the fans determine what to classify my sound or style.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

Honestly, I hate when music is put into different categories, Hip Hop, Rap, R&B, Techno, etc. I consider it all music. I guess my answer to that question is yes. I'm happy with the current state of music. A lot of fresh, new, and creative things are coming out now.

As for your immediate future, what’s next?

I will continue to make music and get that music heard by as many people as possible. Now a days the people are going to decide if you're hot or not. A solid fan base is the key to success, in my opinion. I'm just going to keep putting out quality music.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

You haven’t downloaded that Fhayze “Apologies R N Order”? Where they do that at?

The Hype Magazine Interviews Zay Foggs!

$
0
0

“When I’m onstage, that’s like a second home to me. That’s where I feel most comfortable.”— R&B recording artist, Zay Foggs.

As Isaiah “Zay” Foggs speaks about music, the 22-year-old’s voice brims with excitement because he’s committed to his craft. It’s apparent that Foggs’ music is like a resuscitation force in his heart; so much to the point that he has a microphone tattooed in the center of his chest to symbolize that he and music are one. Zay Foggs is an R&B entertainer out of Indianapolis whose infectious vocals and captivating stage presence instantly make people draw comparisons to Chris Brown and Trey Songz. Foggs says, “I take that as a compliment, but my influences are: Usher, Michael Jackson and Tank”.

Born in San Bernardina, CA,  Zay’s family moved to Indianapolis when he was five. Music played an integral role in his life as he was surrounded by relatives who were either singers or musicians, namely his grandmother, who studied and sang opera. As a teen, he played drums for his church’s choir and learned to sight read charts for both piano and drums. Because his father and grandfather were ministers, Zay’s exposure to secular music was limited until high school when he began hearing hip-hop from his friends, but he taught himself vocal riffing from listening to Boyz II Men. Gospel singer, Smokie Norful, known for his #1 hit, “I Need You Now” was also one of Zay’s early vocal influences. “My voice is more of soft, ballad type of voice,” Zay explains. “I’ve always been good at singing ballads where I can do a lot of runs. But I’m really working toward training my voice to sing more of the uptempo kind of songs, trying to get stronger in the upper register.”

When Zay first leaned toward singing R&B, his father encouraged him to pursue his interests, regardless of genre.  His preparation toward a career in show business began in high school as a member and dance captain of North Central High School Counterpoints, a competition show choir in Indianapolis with an incomparable history spanning over 50 years. With the Counterpoints, Zay competed in expositions throughout the U.S. and Cape Town, South Africa. He was also part of a Pop/R&B trio, TK3, with whom he recorded a 15-track CD in two days before the group took their act on the road.

The day a producer decided to ignore his phone call led to a breakthrough for Zay. At the last minute, he and his cousin attended a music conference happening at the Indiana Black Expo.  After hearing panelist, Sid “Uncle Jamz” Johnson (who’s credentials include writing and producing with such acts as Babyface, Mariah Carey, Usher, Midnight Star, Monica and The Deele to name a few) lecture on the music business, Zay wanted to get closer to Johnson to introduce himself. A woman who said she was a rapper interrupted them and asked Zay, “What do you do?” When he told her he was a singer, the woman challenged him to sing on the spot.  Immediately, Zay ripped through a verse of Chris Brown’s “Take You Down” and the impromptu audition drew him two new fans—the woman and Johnson.  Johnson, impressed by what he heard, would later introduced him to industry professionals such as Bo Watson of Midnight Star, and Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds. Zay’s vocals are featured on hip-hop artist Ole-E’s single, “I Bet She’s Freaky” a track that  was on Billboard’s monitored urban radio charts.

Foggs’ debut album, FROM MY HEART & SOUL will be full of r&b from sensual ballads to very danceable songs. He will have some guest appearances from Bo Watson of  Midnight Star, Kayo of The Deele,  former Manchild guitarist and Isley Brothers band member Reggie Griffin and ex-Spinners keyboardist Rodney Stepp. On Valentine’s Day weekend, Foggs traveled to Atlanta with Johnson as a special guest of superstar producer/writer/artist Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds (who also graduated from North Central High School). In addition meeting Edmonds, he also met Daryl Simmons and singer Kevon Edmonds (After 7). The event was a sold out show with Babyface, Eric Benet and Kevon Edmonds.
Production of the album is being overseen by Uncle Jamz and he has enlisted the services of  D.Hittz, Kill-Will, The LaBeaud Boys,  M-80, Blak & L. Wattz, Tef Jones,  Brian Keith, The Visiders, Donald Bayliss and GuyWes to create a mixture of finely crafted r&b music with a twist to it.

The first single, “Slow Song” featured Bo Watson of Midnight Star, Reggie Griffin on guitar and Gee LaBeaud of The Rude Boys it is available where digital downloads are sold. The music video is on You Tube.  A new single “I Don’t Wanna Sleep” is setting the table for an uptempo jam in November that will turn heads.

The young singer made quite an impact at this year’s Jazz Fest (Macy’s Music Festival) in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 28th as he opened for Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, The O’Jays, Monica and Midnight Star. Veteran soul singer Eddie Lever (of The O’Jays) was taken by Foggs’ vocals that after soundcheck he gave the ultimate compliments.

He also opened for the Circle City Classic Cabaret concert for Charlie Wilson, S.O.S. Band and Tank in Indianapolis at the Convention Center in October.

As an artist, Zay Foggs’ goal is to bring back music that stands the test of time. As he explains, “I want to bring back music that you can listen to now, you can listen to ten years from now, you can listen to twenty years from now, and it’s never going to die.”

Who is Zay Foggs and where are you from?

Zay Foggs is an R&B singer out of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Describe your style?

I would have to say that my style is a good mix of true old school R&B singing with a new school vibe and twist. I like to be versatile so that I can appeal to a younger audience as well as an older crowd.

Describe the Hip Hop and R&B scene in your city?

In my city the Hip Hop scene is a lot stronger and larger than the R&B scene. There are a lot more rappers than singers and sometimes that makes it seem as though rap is all anyone wants to hear. I do however think that R&B is on the come up in Nap because we have a lot of dope artist dropping.

What other artists have you had the opportunity to work with?

At the beginning of my career I had the opportunity to work with Bo Watson of the legendary R&B group Midnight Star and super guitarist Reggie Griffin, who is also from Nap. I've also been blessed to work with artists such as: Ole-E, Gee Labeaud, Big Nod, Twelve, and Skypp.

Who and what are your influences?

I was influenced when I was younger by a lot of soulful singers like Yolanda Adams, Smokie Norful, and Babyface, whom I got to meet this year, but as I got older I started to like a lot of old school groups like The Jackson 5, The Temptations, Take 6 and Boyz II Men. In my teens I then started listening to and was influenced by more new school artists like Usher, Tank, Tyrese, Joe, Ne-Yo, and Chris Brown.

What should people expect from your upcoming projects?

My upcoming projects will display all of the different parts of my personality. You will get a taste of how I view different aspect of life whether it be about love, relationships or partying. You will get a new school vibe with a taste of old school in my music that I think R&B lovers will really be able to feel.

What artists are you listening to right now?

Right now my favorite vocalist is Tank and so I listen to a lot of him. I also am listening to Ne-Yo (a dope songwriter), Chris Brown, and Frank Ocean. Of course all of my old school influences are still in rotation.

Who would you like to work with in the future?

As far as producers go i would love to work with Jermaine Dupri, I really like a lot of the work he has done with Usher, and Timbaland, and most definitely with Babyface.  I would love to do a song with Tank because I feel like he will really push my vocal abilities. I would also love to work with Ne-Yo and his production. I'd like to work with Trey Songz as well. As far as hip hop collaborations I'd like to work with Drake, Jay-Z, Andre 3000 and Ludacris.

Is there anything you would like our readers to know?

I've been blessed at such an early stage in my career to be able to perform and share the stage with some legendary acts at events such as the Macy's Music Festival and the Circle City Classic Cabaret Concert. I've met and shook hands with artists such as Babyface, Bootsy Collins, Eddie Levert, Kevon Edmonds, Daryl Simmons, the members of Midnight Star and many more. My goal is to bring back that traditional feel of R&B music that stands the test of time.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know... What's you CRAZIEST "where they do that at?!" moment...

I would have to say it was when I was backstage at the Soul Train Awards in 2011. I saw this guy walking up and he looked like he could've been an NFL running back the way he was built, the only thing was he had on a tight sparkling muscle shirt and some black leggings with some high heels and a face full of make up (lipstick, eye lashes, etc). He walked by me, started singing, and his voice was deep like a Barry White's. I was like, "Where they do that at??"

The Hype Magazine Interviews Jayce Verse!

Tell me about Jayce Verse, and where are you from?

I was born in NY. My father got out of the air force when I was 2yrs old and we moved to Pittsburgh where we lived until I was 13yrs old. We then moved down south to GA and I've been here ever since. Jayce Verse is complex, sometimes a party hard type of guy, sometimes political, but I'm always on my hustle and grind.

Where did you get the inspiration to start recording music?

It found me. I was in high school and a girl I knew had a boyfriend that had a studio. I was selling back then but my mentor wanted to be a rapper, I didn't. I was cool with the street money, but I knew then i was nice with it. I just didn't see being better than a Tupac or Biggie so it wasn't worth my time. My mentor moved and I still liked going to the studio. One day I pulled out my note book and began to spit and the producer and his engineer wife were speechless. After that I started recording, often in my spare time.

Tell me about your new single, how is that coming along for you?

The new single is the title track from the Cd "Most H8ed", with the same name." Most H8ed" is personal to me because it tells a story about what I was going through. We are just starting to send it out so hopefully it will do numbers like the 2 before it, "Countin Money" and "Pop Drop and Roll."

Who and what are your influences?

I'm influenced by life, things that I see, hear, and go through. I believe that hip hop and rap are in its purest form of street music and when you listen to my music I hope to give you a clear picture of where I'm from and my everyday influences. The people that influence me are my family, my friends, my Blood, my dudes locked away from home, and my fallen soldiers. These are their tales and I'm just the vessel.

What should people expect from your upcoming projects?

HEAT!! This Cd I address Haters and as far as what's next who knows, I might even do another mixtape.

Who Is Legendary Premium?

$

LP, in short for legendary premium, is a hip hop group from Palm Springs in the Vaal Triangle. The group is made out of three male artist (A-Line, Crysis and Sanza Substantial) with fluent rap skills and flows, hard lyrical content, and life based concepts. This is what makes the group different from what is currently played in the media.

LP is not an underground Hip Hop group but the styles of beats used on the currently promoted project are appealing on both underground and commercial audiences. The lyrical content stays hard, complimenting the beats.

All members of LP grew up together as friends in the same neighborhood and  developed different interests in the music field. Crysis became a dancer at the age of 15 and fell in love with hip hop in 2009. A-Line was introduced to hip hop in 1999, at the age of 12, and started writing rhymes in 2001. By the age of 18 he started producing beats and raping. Sanza Substantial was introduced to Hip Hop around the same time with A-Line and remained a loyal Hip Hop fan until he developed an interest in the art of writing, in 2009.  LP was formed in 2011 when they all decided to do a mixtape.

Our first Mixtape was not successful but we got back together in 2012, started recording fresh tracks, to be released in 2013, and performing in Hip Hop sessions around Vaal. They have uploaded a few tracks on sound cloud and kasimp3. They are invading a few local radio stations and community radio stations such as Thetha FM and community television stations such as Soweto TV for interviews.

The Hype Magazine Interviews X.E.L. OHH

$

The world is about to witness what it's been missing from Hip Hop for a long long time. GOOD MUSIC!!! If you live in the DFW TX and haven’t heard of X.E.L. OHH (XTRA ENHANCED LYRIST OF HIP HOP) then you need to come from under that rock. X.E.L. is a talented artist that talks about real situations that people can feel in his music.

As a young man in Brooklyn N.Y., X.E.L was never afraid of the spotlight, performing lead for his church choir at the young age of 12, as well performing in stage plays for audiences big and small. X.E.L. was fascinated by CAD programs and attended the High School of Art & Design where he studied architecture. X accredits this period where his life took a different turn. Around this time his brother had evolved into MAD MIND and formed with a group that called themselves MIC FIENS which consisted of himself, KID RED AKA RED MENACE, & MARK. That was the inspiration that started X.E.L. on his path to becoming an Emcee. He picked up his first pad and started writing. His first rhyme faced the right of passage laid down by all big brothers, who just laughed and said keep trying kid, someday you will get it.

So that's exactly what he did, kept writing. Senior year in high school, as X continued honing his craft, he was approached by a forming group called the “SOULJAZ OF DARKNESS”, consisting of multi, very talented members. X.E.L. (known as CRISSISS at the time) gladly joined the group which, opened his eyes to a broader spectrum of music as a career. With management representation, they went in front of labels like Select Records, but fell short due to differences about which way to take the music. The group soon deteriorated, with members going their own ways to colleges or to different jobs. Some went away from the music as well, but X.E.L. stuck to it even while attending college in Connecticut. College taught X.E.L. what people really wanted to hear from music not just hip hop but all genre and that was, just good music, something that can last. The year 2001 was one of reflection for X.E.L., who's father passed away just months before the 9/11 tragedy that changed our world. That year lead him to believe that time is too short for dreaming... he had to go out and get it. So from then on he worked harder on his craft than ever before.

X started working with a producers like MIGIDI MAC and the ATEAM which consisted of ROB LO and DEE. As his views of life and manhood changed, the CRISSISS was over and a new artist was born... X.E.L. OHH!!!! Working with new people and meeting all the underground heads in Brooklyn a new talent had emerged with raw lyrics and talent undeniable. Everyone that heard him knew he would be a force to reckon with some day. X.E.L. picked up and left for TX to further his music career and create his own sound for the masses.

With his debut release of “DUCKS FLY SOUTH”, X.E.L. painted the perfect canvas, taking you inside stories that felt so real, you just had to close your eyes as his world unfolded before you. This is a talent some Emcees long for... Comes easy for others... Impossible for many.

He followed up with a mix tape for the masses, entitled 9D'S, blending some of the most classic beats from the golden era of hip hop with his own brilliant lyrical concepts. Hosted by Da Hitman, the album had 1200 downloads within 24hrs of it's release. Recently X.E.L. seen a need to once again provide verbal nutrition to the industries musical junk-food infestation. The never resting juggernaut is currently putting the final gloss on his 2nd original album, GROCERIES, which leaked into the local market, already promises to be another classic...

Tell me about X.E.L. OHH?

The name is pronounced X dot E dot L dot oh. The name X.E.L. OHH stands for Xtra Enhanced Lyricist. I was born and raised in Brooklyn NY. Ive been doing this for a minute and it shows in my music, when it comes to music im like a jack of all trades. I do mixing, mastering, graphics, videos, websites and almost anything else you can think of in entertainment.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of Hip-Hop?

Senior year in high school is when I got serious about doing music.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Great. I know people say this all the time but i have a lot to offer in my music its not average and there is something for everyone. Once your hear my music you will understand why i say Great.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

MJ was one of my favorite artist of all time, great entertainer, great performer he was the whole package for sure. Then I got introduced to hip hop - KRS ONE, Big Daddy Kane, LL Cool J, Run DMC, Nas, Biggie, Jay-z, Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest and many more just hip hop in general from the late 80's and the entire 90's.

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

Right now strictly Independent doing my thing  as a solo artist and producer.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

I do real music, things that you can relate to and feel. That's the type of music I do.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

I have mixed feelings about the state of the game. I think hip hop is forever evolving some of it I like and others I don't really care for but hip hop is everywhere breaking all barriers as a genre its on TV, movies, commercials, even in different genres

As for the immediate future, what's next?

Next is working on different projects with different artist from different places, trying to build up that ole so important fan base.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

My first trip to TX with my fam, we were driving around and he was telling me it's easy to pull chicks out here and they don't be wearing nothing. So I'm like what ever let me see. So said so done! We were driving, when we pulled up next to a PT Cruiser full of chicks. He waves at the chicks and tell them to pull over, and they did. They pulled over in some little parking lot, he got out and talked to the chick for like 20 seconds, then he told her to get out of the car. She did and the chick had on some short shorts showing her butt and a bathing suit top. He then tells me, "I told you they don't be wearing nothing."

The Hype Magazine Interviews Circle City Band!

Tell me about Circle City Band?

Circle City Band is a concept project basically representing my hometown of Indianapolis Indiana, which has been nicknamed the “Circle City” not only because of the monument circle landmark, which has been rumored to be geographically positioned dead center in the state of Indiana, but also representing the rare and unsung music legacy that this city has. Up until now there was technically no band per say but I produced the project doing pretty much most of the instrumentation myself and later adding colors from my musician friends such as Lonnie Williams, Reggie Griffin, Gregg Bacon, Darryl Simmons, Billy Badd, Leonard “Fatman” Hamilton (R.I.P.) and Yogi Ford. Their credits are listed on the album.

Today the Circle City Band is also now a live performing show of 8 members and featuring awesome vocalists such as Angela Burns, Tara Michelle, and David Lolla Martinez along with some of the finest professional musicians in the area.

When did the Circle City Band start?

1983 Tyscot/Circle City Records came to me at TRC studio while I was recording a demo tape to get a record deal. At the time I was being managed by Bootsy Collins' old manager George Kachadoorian. They told me they were starting a secular division of Tyscot and wanted to put me and my songs on the label so we made an agreement and my project was to be called Circle City Band; mainly because I wanted to be in the background, because there really was no band at that time. I was doing all of the music by myself.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

“BOOGIEFUNK", because that’s what the fans have labeled it worldwide!

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

My uncles “Canonball” & Nat Adderley (R.I.P.) , George Duke, Bassist Walter Booker (who taught me my notes on the bass R.I.P.), Berry Gordy (all of the Motown family) , Quincy Jones, Reggie Griffin, Felton Pilate, Bernard Purdie, and Bootsy Colllins.

Are you currently signed or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

I have signed an album deal with Ubiquity Records for the Circle City Band album project but I have my own independent entertainment management/production company, United Music Entertainment Group.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

Very commercial, simple, and funky feel good music with positive meaningful lyrics.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of music?

Actually I am not. I did "Gangster Rap" music for years. One of the first to do it in Indianapolis starting back in 1991. I put a lot of mess out there for kids to listen to and this stupid violence and negative circumstance has been a repeated result that keeps on going. God did not give us the gifts we have to do harm to each other. I now pledge to do my part to help change things. I challenge other musicians and producers out there in our community to do the same. Let's together bring a new message to the streets here. This Gangster mess is old and tired. I pray for all in that we can come together and put our beef's aside to bring change and positive results to us and our lives. HE will bless us.

As for the immediate future, what's next?

Lord willing; Concert touring all over the place and to keep on making good music to be released worldwide. Providing jobs in the entertainment business for others and eventually I want to start a development program that will teach others about music, art, computer technology and business.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

I was manager for Steve Arrington, former Lead singer for the 70’s/80’s funk band “Slave", and we were playing 2 shows in California. One show was in Los Angeles at a vinyl pressing plant and mastering studio. The record company Steve is signed to was doing a “Direct to Vinyl Disc” recording “Live” of Steve and his producer at the time “Dam Funk” as the opening act. During the break, there was a DJ spinning records and all of sudden I hear “My Place” by Circle City Band and the crowd was jamming to it! I went over to the Dj and told him who I was and he said “You’re Paul Thomas with Circle City Band? I have all your records and I play them in the clubs all the time!” and he pulled out the other 2 Circle City Band records out of his crate. We exchanged numbers. The very next day we were performing in Long Beach at the Long Beach Funk Festival co-headlining on the main stage with Fred Wesley & the JB’s. During the break, there was a DJ spinning records and all of sudden I hear “Magic” by Circle City Band and the crowd was jamming to it! I went over to that Dj and told him who I was and he said “You’re Paul Thomas with Circle City Band? I have all your records and I play them in the clubs all the time!” and he pulled out the other 2 Circle City Band records out of his crate.

Exactly one year later, the day after I signed and delivered the contract for the deal with Ubiquity Records the A&R director for the label called me on my cell while I was at my son Royal’s AAU basketball game and said “I want you to hear something”. What I heard was “Magic” playing in the background and I said so and he said “You’ll never guess where I am right now, I am standing in front of the main stage at the Long Beach Funk Festival, the DJ is playing "Magic" and the crowd is jamming to it.” At each one of these things I actually thought, “Where they do that at?!” Praise God for all HIS blessings!

Sincerely, Thank you and God bless!

Miss Silawett is my alter ego; the Funky, Ultra Sexy, Soulstress hailing all the way from Bolivia.

When did you first become interested in the pursuit of music?

I discovered my innate talent around the age of 7 years old; I spent alot of time engulfed in and mimicking singers in all genres of music; it wasn't until I moved back to the united states in my late teens that i discovered  that music had a tight hold on me and I made the decision to keep pursuing my dreams no matter what obstacles I encountered.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

Ethereal because people say my voice is sultry even when my music is edgy its still heavenly.

Growing up who were/are some of your biggest musical influences?

Growing up I would say Michael & Janet Jackson, Madonna, Selena, TLC

Are you currently signed? Or, are you strictly independent at this point in time?

I'm independent but welcome the backing of a major label; but I'm not rushing into a situation as much as I am awaiting the Right one.

How would you classify your sound and/or style?

Pop

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of Hip-Hop?

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know…What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

This was in front of people and it took over an hour for the man to finish till he completely took it all apart.People approached him asking him if it was his; But nothing scared this man he just kept going on with what he was there to do. All I have to say is where they do that! Only in New York!

The Hype Magazine Interview T Bone

$

0

Tell me about T Bone?

I’m a very dedicated person. I work hard in every aspect of my Life! Whether it's music, business, or just a friendly game of basketball. I always give 100% and will not take no for an answer. To be the best, you have to compete with the best! And I want to be the greatest artist I can be. Most people set out to just "fit in." To me that's like being okay with coming in second place in a race. (Which is never okay in my book.) I want FIRST PLACE! And FIRST PLACE only! And with GOD, anything is possible! That's T Bone.

Who are your musical influences and why?

The list goes on for days (laughing). I love all types of music but I have major respect for artists who had to overcome struggles in their life to become successful. Seeing an artist come from nothing and putting there all into their dreams attracts me. Being real in your music, not forgetting where you came from, and always showing your fans the love and attention they deserve are a few things I pay attention to in other artists. So, pretty much any artist who follows that is a huge influence on me.

What prompted you to venture into music?

Expressing Emotions. Music is my outlet! When I want to express myself, I do it in my music. Throughout high school all my teachers told me, "Your voice will get you far." I never really understood how my voice would get me far (laughing). I had no plans on running for president or being a spokesman for a company, but after I created my first song I understood exactly what they meant.

If you could describe your style of music in one word, what would it be and why?

(REAL) Every song I write comes from either a personal experience I've had or someone around me has had. I make sure I mention true facts in every song, no matter what the topic. The word REAL is the only word I feel that fits me.

What do you have as an artist that makes you stand out among the rest?

One thing I take pride in is remaining humble. No matter how much success, money, or fame, I remain humble. A lot of artists lack staying humble. Even with millions of fans, some artists let that fame go to their head and they forget the rough times before they made it. I have loyal fans willing to promote and listen to my music everywhere! I admire myself for remaining who I was before the fame and after.

What is your favorite part of performing?

The Crowd energy! There is no better feeling than seeing a crowd of people dancing, singing, and really feeling your music. I perform like I'm competing because as an artist we all compete with each other. Putting on a show is half the battle! Nobody wants there hard earned cash to be wasted on a boring ass performance.

What can your fans expect on the album you are currently pushing?
Original, unique, and heart felt quality. Topics everyone can relate too. A lot of emotion involved in this project because it's my debut album! Can't wait to hear my supporters reactions.

What do you think of today's musical trends?

They are interesting. I've always been a big fan of change and this is definitely a different era for music! I look forward to working with some of today's new artists, as well as artists who have been around for a while.

Any upcoming appearances?

I'm currently working on tour dates in the U.S. Then I’m heading overseas to Europe! So, stay on the lookout for information for show dates and ticket prices. (Which will be available very soon!)

Any advice for upcoming artists?

Never let anyone tell you that you can't make it! A lot of people will come along and try to kill your dreams. It's up to you to show those people anything is possible. Never trust anyone in the industry. Be original, stay humble, and most importantly trust GOD and have faith in your craft!

Where can your fans find more info?

www.stuntmoneygang.com (My Label website.) You can find music, social networks, tour dates, shows, free downloads, merchandise, etc.

Last but not least, HYPE wants to know… What’s your CRAZIEST “Where they do that at?!” moment…

(Laughing) The craziest moment I've had was leaving the gym in my hometown (Aurora, Illinois). A teenager stopped in the middle of a basketball game, chased me to my car, and asked, "Aye Bone, why you didn’t follow me back on twitter?" Something I will never forget!

Thank you all at The H.Y.P.E. Magazine for this wonderful opportunity!
